I am singing praises and (almost) crying tears of joy. If it does get passed, I don't know what I will do. This almost makes up for the democratic governor and socialist cities we have now..... Realize people that want to conserve the environment, the democrats aren't for you, they allowed developers to rape the land because they got lots of money. But, the still will carbon tax every business out of existence, arghh. Anyways, I will be emailing, writing, calling my senators, reps and all my pro-gun friends to do the same.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

In Colorado we are allowed to carry in Universities, but many just ban it with policy. Will the AZ bill keep Universities from just policing it out of existence. Utah backed their law with a total preemption and ruled that state schools couldn't policy it away.

CU was allowed to set policy against it because of Ken Salazar was the AG and issued an opinion.

The primary sponsor is Sen. Karen Johnson, R-Mesa.
People are, generally, a little more conservative on this side of the valley than they are in Phoenix itself. I'm certainly hoping it passes, but I'm waiting awhile before throwing a party....

    Utah precedent

As several have noted, Utah already allows CCW holders to carry on school grounds, and no bad outcomes have resulted. The U. of Utah tried to resist this, but they were slapped down by the Utah legislature and supreme court. If Arizona could pass this law, there would be two adjacent states showing some common sense in this matter, and it might spread.

A single CCW holder in the right position at Virginia Tech could have saved 25 lives.

That is a bill to get behind and support!
Yes it is, and I did. Sent a letter to all Senators this morning.

Arizona has total pre-emption now so I would imagine it would cover this law also. But, if not they will probably would add it to the bill.

Arizona recently adopted a law requiring all governmental buildings that ban weapons provide an easily accessible, secure storage locker for the guns. Few places have complied. I'd assume the universities would fall under this policy. I wouldn't want to have to account for someone's weapon. That $700 Kimber just turned into a $10,000 YoBo after someone broke in and stole it!

If I recall, Husker, nobody enforces it because its not techincally enforceable? Ie - there's no stated punishment for non-compliance and they never placed an implementation date... Wish they'd set one up.

Anyone heard anything new on this? Between Idaho and this, I wouldn't be surprised.

I may have to consider moving to Arizona if this passes. Apparently Ignatius Piazza is offering a free 4-day handgun class at Front Sight to Arizona teachers in support of this idea!

There is also legislation proposed in Washington state that would prohibit colleges and universities from enacting rules that restrict the lawful possession of firearms on campus (SB 6860). I doubt the pro-gun side of the state can push this through against the head-in-sand liberal Seattle masses, but it is good to see several legislators recognize that our gun-free zones actually place our young people at risk on campus.

The other side of the aisle has proposed legislation that makes it a criminal offense to carry on college campuses. Currently it is not a criminal offense to carry on a college campus, but colleges can enact policy or administrative code.

If you live in Washington, it is important to let your legislators know you support SB 6860 and oppose SHB 3131.

Sorry, no intent to hijack the thread. I'm following the Arizona legislation with interest.
