Im glad she is going to be proactive about defense. Have her test that milpro ASAP for reliability. The MilPro 9mm I bought NiB had a broken extractor from the factory and was essentially a single shot pistol out of the box.

Now my wife is having issues with the local sheriffs office. They say that she can't get a pistol purchase permit because her license has our old address in NC. We will see what happens

Good advice, but I believe this American was also asking for some help for some other Americans.

I'm if FL so I really can't help. Let's hope our NC members step up to the plate. This is where your "I support our troops" bumper sticker begins to mean something. We all know we are not vigilantes or deputy sheriffs. At the same time, we are allowed to get in our vehicles and go for a drive if someone asks us to follow them. Let's do the right thing.

I am in NC but not close to where she is located but if I can be of any help just let me know. The Sheriffs dept is correct on having the proper ID, this should have been done by 90 days after your move ( IIRC) simply go to the License office, pay $10 and get a new license, then go get pistol permit. They are good for 5 years so have her buy a few of them, $5 each. Once you get your CC permit you won't need them though.

I didn't realize NC required a permit to purchase a gun. How many other states are like that?

I'm trying to get my gf to want a gun. She took a class at some PD a long time ago and the recoil of the provided guns were too much for her. Its been hard to get her to go shoot even a .22 now. She works in an area where there are drug shootings pretty frequently.

Hope everything works out with your wife's permits. Not being able to get it the first time may make her want to not go back to get it.

Well i just found out she cant get it for a couple of months...kinda makes me upset but i had her order 2 keychain peppersprayers...10% which is kinda high to me but thats good. i told her to go out to her uncles farm with her dad with crappy clothes and expend one of the containers so that she gets familiar with the use of it and the distance it will go. also once expended she can use it as a "dummy" can and practice with it. I also had her purchase a walther p99 airsoft pistol so that she can get used to the slide, slide lock and have her perform the slap (the mag), rack the slide, reasses the situation, shoot if needed. The only thing about her getting a permit is that she needs to pay to get the license renewed and hertford county doesnt really have too big of a gun selection. So she is calling the local gun shop that is a walther dealer to see if he can get the PPS. If so I will have her order it...that will be her gun...and if I like it i will get one too. If not I'll prob get the p239 sas dak....beautiful gun

Unfortunatley now this scumbag knows where she lives. She should drive to a police station or fire department next time.

Just a suggestion....have her also carry the Airsoft pistol everywhere, especially in her car, just to get somewhat used to having a "gun." Make sure she understands to not pull it out if threatened, since it's not real.

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for your service! I'm a veteran, myself.

Maybe your dad has friends he can call on to watch out for the Missus.

We have military families up here (near Camp Grayling). If we found out that something like that had happened, even if we didn't know the woman, she'd have several folks volunteering for "escort duty".
To me this makes a lot of sense . Now i am not .mil never have been other than some limited cross training and never will be but i know about the good old boy network that persists and a lot can be done in this fashion. If you dont believe me , just ask anyone in any rank structured , gun toting, change folks' mind orginisation just how long they can effectively function without the " back channel get chit done " club supplied by sargents alone , much less the " officers clubs " such as the various ring knockers and then tech school clubs .
If Your deployed and your wife is having a problem take it to your command . If they are not totally chickenshit they may well be able to help beyond saying call 911. In any event either your command , or the civilian authoritys of where she lives is the place for this , not a drama here . Just my opinion
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .
We only begin to understand folks after we stop and think .

Cuban, I am in Windsor, VA (15 min north of Franklin) and if you are interested I could sell your wife a Glock 26. I bought it and never really carried it, it's been shot at the range maybe 150 rounds. It's a private sale so there should be no need for paperwork (unless you need some to own it.) PM me if you're interested.
