    Glove box "carry"

I've had a CCW permit for about a year, but I work in hospitals where CW are not permitted (I'm a cardiologist), and I wear scrubbs most of the time. How wise/unwise is it to leave a weapon in the car where it would be accessible when I want to slip it into a coat pocket? I have a locking glove box in the Trailblazer, but I also have a five year old boy.

I have a small lock box that is attached to the underside of my car seat. It is easy to access, but out of view. I think it cost me around $40.

If your glove box is lockable, that would be OK. I'd much rather you get a purpose made lockbox mounted in a more concealed and convenient location in your blazer though.

The only tool needed to open your LOCKED glovebox is a screw driver. They are very easy to open. I would suggest, as others have said, a purpose built lockbox.

Hope this isn't seen as hijacking the thread but I've been looking at different lockboxes myself and I don't think anything would slide under my car seat. I've looked at the PacSafe but even that would be a tight fit. I have slightly tinted windows if I just put it close to the seat would that be good enough?!?!?!

A thief can go through a car in seconds and knows every hiding spot. Depending on what you carry, a cable lock through the trigger guard and your seat frame might be as secure as anything. Car thieves usually don't carry boltcutters. DO NOT bolt down a safe in plain sight!

Might want to take a look at these locking holsters for motorcycles. They are very secure and versatile to mount and I'll bet you could easily adapt one in your vehicle somewhere. The solid steel keyed locking pin enters your trigger guard, and the solid steel frame is tough! (I've got one on my bike and love it, it's in his photo album). Call Steve, nice guy and might even have some specific ideas for you.

You can also go to Center of Mass. They also offer a locking safe, which is designed to lock guns in your car, by locking it to your seat track. You can check it out at :

I just posted this same reply to another post, but got to the LEO supply store and get a decent pair of cuffs, one through the trigger guard and one around the seat post and the gun isn't going anywhere and the gun can be slid under the seat, or the seat pulled forward to hide the weapon.

I think this would be the route you would want to go. Think I'll order one of these.

Another problem I see with locking your gun in the glovebox is that you need to unlock it with your car key. If you don't unlock it before you start your car, the keys you need to open it are in the ignition. Turning your car off when there's an iminent threat may be out of the question. Of course if you get a lockbox and keep the key to that on your key ring, your back in the same boat. So keep that in mind if you get a lockbox, which is probably the better solution.

+1 for the Center Of Mass boxes. If you order two or more at a time they can be keyed the same.

I use to leave a pistol in my turck for years, but stopped when our small little town, got big enough for thief’s to start working it. And the first thing thief’s started breaking into was cars at the mall, hospital, and downtown on the street.

In your line of work you can’t carry a pistol with ya, so like others have said I’d look into a small car safe that can be secured out of site.
