I was talking to a friend and she had a thought about storing your gun in the car.
Her suggestion was to use a safe such as a COM but instead of just locking it in the box, dismantle it first and carry the slide with you. That way, if a BG does happen to steal the gun, it is essentially useless...at least immediately. They would have to get a new slide.
Obviously easier with a Glock, XD and Sig than a 1911.
Any thoughts on that idea.
What happens if you need the gun in a hurry and it's in pieces?
What happens when a cat jumps on your hood, scares the heck out of you, and you launch your slide across the street and your mag falls down a sewer?

In a similar fashion: "Never mess with your gun more than you have to."
That idea has absolutley NO merit whatsoever.
You dont dismantle a gun because it might get stolen. If you are that worried about it, either dont leave it in the vehicle or wear the thing.
A parted out gun is about as useless as nipples on a boar hog.
The ONLY advantage I see to this is if the thief sees the dismantled gun and obviously missing slide, he might give up and leave the rest since it's useless.
I agree not a good idea. If you secure the gun properly there should be nothing to worry about. The actual time my gun stays in any of my vehicles alone is way less than 5% of the time. After 11 years of CCing you simply avoid places you can't carry.

Well, that's a simple fix. Drive a mini-van. Who breaks into those and for what?! A stash of diapers, maybe a chocolate bar? :theyareontome:

Taking the slide and the magazine may not deter a thief. He doesn't need a background check to buy a magazine or a new slide but he would a reciever,
So he just might steal the reciever then go purchase the other parts. tthen you are left with a slide and magazine that are usless unless you buy a new reciever or use them on another gun. Just take it with you, that is why we CCW.
Take the batteries out of your flashlight...

Remove the spare from the trunk...
Take off the windshield wipers...they're easy to steal...

Keep the gun in one piece and loaded...just put it in the COM safe...you'll be fine!
