Virginia Senate Leader Denigrates Gun Owners

Virginia gun owners were lampooned by Virginia Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw at a recent hearing on gun rights. Follow the link on this page for the full story: NRA-ILA :: In The News

The senator’s snide aside was overheard by Bristol Virginia resident John Pierce, a computer software developer who traveled to Richmond as part of a delegation from the Virginia Citizens Defense League. About 400 league members were in Richmond to lobby their lawmakers and to protest a potential change to the state’s gun laws.

In an e-mail, which is rocketing around the Internet, Pierce described the incident:

"Senator Saslaw … and a companion entered the elevator. … He loudly continued his discussion with his companion. The next words out of his mouth were the most disrespectful words I have ever heard spoken openly by a Virginia legislator about his constituency."

According to Pierce, Saslaw said, "I see we’re debating a gun bill today. Half of the cast of ‘Deliverance’ is in town."
Virginians who support the 2nd Amendment have every right to be angry with Sen. Saslaw's stereotypical characterization of gun owners and should remember this at election time.

    Wow,

Hard to believe that an elected official in this day and age could make such an insensitive remark.

Virginians, make sure you remember this when the next election comes around.

Make a remark like that in this day and age.... Well let's see, he was talking about white men. I know you have been paying attention. White men are open season.

In this day and age he would never say anything that could be offensive to women, blacks, gays or hispanics. There are a host of other "protected" species out there, white men aren't on the list.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

Wow! From Virginia! I guess he figures that our founding fathers were a bunch of hillbillies.

It's already being referenced as "Banjogate."
The facts are indisputable. There is more data supporting the benefits of Conceal Carry than there is supporting global warming. If you choose ignorance, in light of all the evidence, in order to bolster your irrational fear of guns, you are a greater threat to society than any gun owner.

It's time for all of VA to start writing to the "good" Senator's office.

Like many elected by others to represent and defend their interests, he does not appear to have their interests at heart while he's working at the gravy train.

No doubt, this statement is reflective of his true feelings about the people he purports to represent.

I wonder ... will he oink or squeal when the VCDL and people of Virginia get through roasting his him over such "representation"? Personal responsibility's a son of a gun, sometimes, isn't it?

I'd be more concerned about how he voted on the gun bill.

I can't wait to hear his public statement. Guarantee he'll either deny it, or say he was quoted out of context. What an idiot! These days, you can't take a crap without someone putting it on YouTube.

Make sure you write this guy and give him your opinion. Let heim know where you votes come from and that you can also support others who will oppose him making his carreer much shorter. Many of those people are political prostitutes and will dance to anyones tune. He needs to hear from youl.

I think this would be pretty much the majority opinion among politios. Some may support us in front of the camera, but behind the scenes - not so. This is why we are in the mess we are regarding gun laws already in force. I don't trust any of them. Letters and e-mails to his office are in order for those who are his constituents. If one doesn't live in VA he isn't going to give a hoot what you think - heck most of them don't give a hoot what gun owners think in general - we are I believe a minority among the voters. We're just not a protected species. O.K., off soapbox.
