    Do Not Carry in NYC/NYS

Unless you have a valid permit or are a LEO anywhere within the 50 States.
I recently flew to Mississippi and my friend had two guns to check.
Once again the counter agent called for the NY/NJ Port Authority Police and three officers responded.
As it turns out two of the officers were once on my job so I asked them why the police response when, at all other airports I have been to, it is TSA who checks the weapons.
They said that it is standard at all NY airports since they tend to make a lot of arrests on people who think that their out of state permit is valid in the 5 boros.
One officer even chuckled that some small police departments in Montana have told some citizens that they are good to carry in NYC on their permit.
    Guys..please don't flame the messenger!!!
I do not like these laws any more than you do.
In other words, I would love to see a pistol permit valid in all 50 states.
But until then, be warned.....NO HANDGUNS IN NYC/NYS unless legal.
Even if you are just flying through NYC and changing planes, it is possible that you may miss your flight and then stay overnight in NYC.
If that happens leave your bag with the airline to avoid having to recheck it.

Actually, if you have a NY State CCW, it is valid in EVERY county in New York State, except the five boros/counties of NY City: Queens County, Kings County (Brooklyn), Richmond COunty (Staten Island), Bronx County, and New York County (Manhattan).

If you are travelling through NY to another state that allows your CCW, then you can do that as long as the gun is locked up separately from any ammo, and is disclosed to the TSA (if travelling by plane).

I might make sense to carry a copy of the NY firearms law with you (section 400/Paragraph 6, available Here

That way it can be shown to the officers that never studied that section

    True but...
What happens if your connecting flight is canceled?
If you take your checked baggage with you to the hotel you now have an illegal gun in NYC.
And when you come back to the airport you now have to declare your firearm and that is when the PAPD will nail you.
Look, I am just trying to give everyone a heads up.
Try to avoid connecting flights that come into JFK, Laguardia and Newark airports.
If not, and your flight is canceled, DO NOT pick up your checked luggage..just leave it in custody of the airlines until your next flight.

Are you telling me that the cops have nothing better to do than bust passengers with guns even if its just a layover?

    That is ridiculous.

Those people need to get in line with the rest of the country.

Not that I would go to NYC anytime soon, but if it's true that even with a NY state permit you cant go to any of the 5 boroughs and legally carry that sucks pretty badly.

I talked to Port Authority cops and they said they don't care what you do with regard to checking gun. They said as long as you have a license where you live and where you are going its a peaceable journey..But you are standing in a NYC or worse....EWR airport..

I traveled through JFK once in 2004. Did not have a gun with me, but the TSA people in New York apparently enjoy hassling travels for no reason. They are the rudest people I have ever encountered in my travels. Since then, I will always go out of my way to avoid New York City.

Strickest gun laws= highest crime rate
How can these people not see this?
GUN CONTROL= I WANT TO BE THE ONE IN CONTROL OF THE GUN
