Campus carry debate on O'Reilly (Merged)
Frankly, it was pathetic.
The spokesman for (I did not hear his name) correctly explained that someone with a CCW could have minimized the damage and stopped the shooter. He claimed to have a CCW permit in Kansas.
The anti, Marc Hill, spewed the normal nonsense. He intimated that the permit holders would not have the training to counter a crazed shooter. No one even mentioned the woman in CO who did stop a shoter.
O'Reilly kept going on about professors being armed and did not touch the subject of students being armed. And he was deferential to the anti view when Hill mentioned that Ward Churchill might have a gun.
Good that the debate gets out to millions of viewers but we absolutely need better spokesmen.
Did anyone else see the segment? Opinions?

Bill OReilly and ccw on campus
Bill OReilly pretty much stuck up for conceal carry on campus tonight on his show. He had a person from each side to debate it, but Bill was obviously pro-carry on campus. He mostly was talking about teachers and staff being able to use their permits on campus.
Anyone else see it?

Saw it, and agree all he lacked was actually saying that if somebody had been carrying in the room things may have been different.
He did indicate that personal protection is an issue.

He is a wannbe pro-gun for those in control type jobs not the masses.
He does not support and even provides negative comments on Huckabee the by far the most pro 2A individual running for office.
He would have probably been against Teddy R.

After hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans gun grab and all of the crime that follolwed, I remember Bill saying you can not depend on the govenment to protect you. He also made the statement, "I'm getting a gun to protect myself."
And after Virginia Tech either he or guests on his show stated that the outcome of that might be different if anyone in those classrooms had been carrying.

Personally I'm not a big fan of O'Reilly, the debates between "experts" on his show rarely goes anywhere and I find a lot of statements made on both sides to be questionable. I don't think Bill himself feels particularly passionate about the subject matter, and I got the feeling he went through the motions but it was more of a "this is an issue right now, let's talk about it" than him earnestly trying to further the cause.
Kinda pointless if you ask me, I agree that we need someone with a bigger investment than what we got.

Saw the debate, and it's coming on in a couple minutes again.
I was dissapointed in our spokesman.
He did not stress that concealed carry actually is a deterrance beacuse the BG just can not know if there will be someone to confront him.
It also was not stressed that many CCW license holders have as much or more training/practice than LEO's.
I'd also add that 'Gun Free Zones" simply are shooting galleries for those intent on causing harm.

Good things can come from the discussion. People want to protect their kids I think.

I just ran into this discussion, but wonder if anyone has any pro or con info about Utah allowing both students and faculty to carry on campus. Seems like if it is working there it should work elsewhere. According to the web when doing a Google search about Utah, it is the only state that does allow.

I agree both O'Rielly and the PH.D Pro Gun guy Dr Russell left alot to be desired but at least Russell tried. Dr. Mark Hill what can I say, I never expect him to be on the right side of anything. I guess he doesn't think students or faculty should be allowed to defend themselves. I guess they just don't get it.

After talking to two different public university police chiefs in Utah, with 0 reported incidences of firearm theft, assaults, shootings, etc., by a license holder....I'm pretty sure it's going to hold true for the rest of them as well.
