I can now add rail travel to my list of methods of transportation not to take.

How does this effect conceal carry on Amtrack travel within the same state? Or neighboring states that honor each others permits-license?
    Sorry if I'm missing something.

You cannot carry on Amtrak in any way, shape or form unless you are an LEO on official business, with Amtrak's approval.

No firearms on Amtrak EVER. No carrying and no in your baggage. There are plenty of old topics if you want to read more.

The news articles say the police will have "automatic weapons" I wonder if this is true or just an assault rifle misquote. I can't imagine why they would need automatic weapons on a train...?

Where is the Brady Bunch when we need them? After all, they say assault weapons are "designed to be spray-fired from the hip, and because of their design, a shooter can maintain control of the weapon even while firing many rounds in rapid succession....there is a good reason why these features on high-powered weapons should frighten the public."

    irony is funny but sad.

Non-Issue. You couldn't even transport locked firearms on AMTRAK.

It doesn't matter though. AMTRAK is over priced, inefficient and woefully inadequate. I'd rather take Southwest even without the ability to check a firearm.

WTH, over. I'm still amazed by that picture. And the policy described.
Basically, if they decide to swab your luggage and residue is detected, you can decline to have it searched and leave with a refund. Say it -is- loaded with explosives and you want to blow up the train. What happens after you wait for the guys with rifles go on their merry way, then board a later train?
I feel safer already! No wonder no one takes the train.

So, um, hypothetically, how do you hijack a train ? And after you do, THEN WHAT ?

I embrace the fact that its only intrusive if you want it to be, sounds a lil stupid tho. Kinda like setting the metal detector off at the court house, ooops my bad ill come back later when its turned off officer.

For an equally priced (compared to flying), much longer trip, and no guns in the luggage?...why would I EVER take a train?

I took Amtrak from Southern Ill to New York and back. Talk about a trip in the pasture of ...
We were 24 hours late getting into New York ( they did put us up in a hotle in Manhatten becasue we missed our connecting train).. We were late because of a tree on the track and then we hit and killed a woman. It was actually a pretty neat trip going in the viewing car and all. And they had a bar.... I was a back then and would'nt dare take Amtrak again. Now I can't imagine not even being able to take a gun in my luggage unloaded and locked up.. Reeeedicullous..
