Anyhow, it sucks for us, but the bank is obligated to protect their employees. And even though they would probably ignore this obligation, they will gladly use it as an excuse to protect their money. I understand their position. They are way less likely to be successfully sued for me getting killed in their parking lot than for leaving the doors wide open and someone getting killed in the lobby. Don't have the perfect answer, I just hope that this doesn't spread.

Wonder how a LEO gets in? Their has to be an over ride. If the bank is being robbed how would the good guys get in, or an off duty LEO. stupid if you ask me and not much thought behind it.

Just like everyone else. He leaves it in the car.

Doesn't make sense that they would generalize on anyone that walked in with something else that would set off the alarm. Lots of other things besides a gun will set it off. Since you weren't checked or asked anything, it just makes no sense.
Yep, makes no sense. Are you sure they were open for walkup business?
After all, what if a person had a roll of quarters, bag of change, bundle of car keys, aluminum briefcase, cell phone, etc.
I think attributing this to being a gun issue seems a bit premature since there was no followup to ascertain the situation.

A small local bank branch (read: no security guards) I use has this. It's an airlock setup, only admits one at a time, metal detector, &c.
If I lived in a state where I could carry, I'd probably find it annoying (but not as annoying as the no hat, no glasses signs
), but there's this---in other gun-free zone posts, people on this board have stated that anybody keeping out lawful CCW holders should do exactly this with metal detectors at every entrance to make sure BGs stay unarmed, too.
Well, that's what this is. This is as close to a real gun-free zone as you are going to get, and I suspect it is pretty effective. At least this one is not just a useless piece of feel-good paper posting. It is actual physical security.

Could you imagine the line at Wal-mart if they had TSA style metal detectors and security!!! Then you get to the cashier and say they made me leave my roll of quarters outside.

Sounds like this bank is in a very bad part of town. I've never had this problem in any bank.

Wait a minute...
Your gun is concealed, you have keys, cell phone, sun glasses (er, sorry...don't need sunglasses in MI)...
How do they know it's a gun that's being 'metal detected'?
No one came to the door? Do they strip search you, too?
There has to be more to the story...it's not like this is the airport...they couldn't afford that kind of security!
Stay armed...stay concealed...stay safe!

A bank today that is not ADA compliant?
Maybe it should be brought to their attention by a deputy US Attorney or the appropriate government agency.

Ok, let's see if I can defeat this security system in 2 seconds so I can rob the bank:
1st second:
My homey, let's call him skeeter, goes through the metal detector unarmed, and right into the bank.
2nd second: he holds the friggin door open for me while I walk in, handing him his gun.

ok, that was easy. I saw the answer right away.
now, if they decide to put a metal detector in walmart, preventing me from protecting myself or my family while shopping there, i have a way of dealing with that as well.
I drop my wife off at the door to let her go in and get whatever we need.
I stand right outside with my hand in my coat, wrapped around my 9mm XD.
I escort her as soon as she comes out to the car, ready to kill the first piece of crap I see because walmart decided to make their parking lot into a high crime area.
Yep, that will certainly make things safer.

Until you have a BG dress like a cop and they just buzz him through. Or, <insert other random ways to defeat this>.

I wonder if the glass is a secuirty type of glass that is shatter proof. If not walk up to the door with a center punch and blow the glass into bits, walk thru the frame into a the bank. Most of these door work by a magnet strike and there is a override switch that is required from the building department.
Push the button. This same building Department should issue a summoms for not being not wide enough for ADA. The first time the bank gets a call from somebody that says I am an attorney and I am going to sue the bank or a violation of the ADA the metal detectors will come down.

The way I see it, an establishment that bans my Glock, also bans my wallet.
