    Actually, it is specifically illegal for any jurisdiction to make a law more strict than the state.

    According tot state law, and to the state troopers, anyone who can legally own a firearm may carry that firearm concealed anywhere in the state, even in Anchorage.

    That being said, many of the APD officers tend to either not know that fact or they simply refuse to acknowledge it while in a stop. While it seems to be uncommon, it is not unheard of for people spending an hour waiting for a supervisor to end up on scene to clear up an issue with a concealed firearm.

    I actually called the APD last October, two different times, and was told on both instances that a permit was required to carry in the city, which was absolutely wrong. I'm pretty sure they knew that, but they are trying to limit the number of people carrying as much as they can by telling people outright lies.
