    Question for South Florida Residents

It's time for the Miami Dade County Youth Fair and Exposition again.

I was wondering what security was like. (Pat downs, metal detectors, etc.)

Some of you may know there was a shooting there at a gas station. It appears to be a case of road rage.

WSVN-TV - Local News - 2 dead, 1 injured in gas station shooting

In any event, I don't want to go in there without my "friend".

If anyone has been already or has gone in past years carrying their friend without incident, I'd like to hear about it.

    Thanks for you time!

Don't plan on going this year... no time. From what I recall they just check bags at the front gate, kinda like Disney.

I reference to the sooting I go to FIU and got this email (Thought it was funny).

    Dear students:

Perhaps you have heard news reports about a fatal shooting that took place last night at the Shell gas station on the corner of 107 Ave. and 8th Street across from FIU-University Park.

This incident occurred off campus, did not involve any member of the FIU community and did not impact university operations in any way. Miami-Dade Police is investigating; a suspect is in custody.

Any questions about this matter should be directed to Public Safety Chief Bill King, 305-348-2626 or Bill.King@fiu.edu or to Vice President Rosa Jones, 305-348-2797 or Rosa.Jones@fiu.edu.

    Thank you.

I mean no offense, but these kinds of questions are perhaps better left unanswered.

This is Florida. Our CWL laws are pretty easy to follow. If you're licensed, you can exercise the RKBA at most public events. We have reciprocity agreements with most states, and if not with your state, then you can apply for a FL CWL without having to be a Floridian.

We also have some mighty high value targets for terrorists. I'd prefer to not discuss any security measures. We have some interesting prototypes in testing.

If there is a metal detector (or some other scanner) at an event, so what? That doesn't change our right to carry, it just means the LEOs at the entrance will know we are. We may have to show the license; no big deal. No more trouble than showing a fishing license when you have a rod in your boat.

If stopped for carrying, it will take less than 5 minutes for an LEO to quietly straighten it out. The only two big mistakes we can make are:
    -1- to carry openly
    -2- to not carry
