    Daycare carry

Can a daycare be considered a school if it has school aged children in it? I drop my kids off and I'm normally carrying... is it legal?

At least in my state (WA), the laws about carrying on school grounds only apply to primary and secondary schools - basically, pre-K through highschools. I'm pretty darn sure daycares don't apply. Check your local laws.

If you're only picking up and dropping off, my opinion is - concealed is concealed, but be cautious. Working there would be another story.

    Just my over-inflated two cents.

    Peace,
    Pete Zaria.

I'd think those are private businesses, and would be handled the same way. I certainly wouldn't let anyone, especially other parents, see it!

I'm not sure about the law in Tennessee, but my kids' daycare has a "No Weapons" sign.

I can't see how it would be considered a school unless it was recognized as such by the local school/education board.

In SC daycares are not included in the school list but are in a separate list so yes they are banned in SC. Don't know about other states.

So they want you to remove your firearms in the parking lot, lock them in th esafe, just to take your kids through the doors?

Don't they know BG's can't read those signs!!?

In MN it is considered the same as a school. If you have a permit you can carry to the day care center, unholster and store your gun in the trunk, then re-holster in the parking lot upon leaving off your child. You can carry in the facility if you have written permission of someone in authority. What does your state say? Was it covered in a class you took?

My Mom runs a daycare out of my parent's house and I honestly never gave it a thought. I usually stop by once a week or so while out running errands on a day off and disarming before I go in the house never even crossed my mind. I wonder if there is a difference between a daycare run out of a home vs. a daycare center.

Tennessee law stipulates that you can have it in your vehicle at a school or daycare, so that's not a problem. Besides, the young women who work in there aren't exactly the gun totin' types.

Check your specific state laws to be sure.
They do vary and be sure to check the wording of the law verbatim.

Just to let you know I am a daycare teacher for the time being and I actually am the gun totin' type. I may just be the one exception in this whole world, but I am still out there. I didn't take offense to the comment, just wanted to let you know that there are some of us daycare teachers out there.
Now I don't carry to work and there is only one person that knows that I carry because it is such a touchy topic. I really wish that I could carry at work, at least in my vehicle or something like that. I would feel better about that then goofy "security" system we have now. (I use security very loosely here).
At my center, unless you are a VA LEO you can not carry into the center. And you must me in uniform. I have never checked the rest of the state out because that is the only center I work at, and I have no children.

I suppose I'll rant as well as back it up. ::

To post in a thread, "Help with my state regs" you have to find the answer for the poster, then say what your state allows.

    055 Pa. Code §*3270.79.*Firearms.

Your state does not allow carry in a daycare.
