    Stupid FL electronic fingerprinting.

The whole point of the electronic finger printing system is to save time, but It's been nothing but a hassle. Who's idea was it to have a separate payment system, and what purpose is this for? Get finger printed at your local Sheriff's office and pay elsewhere, dumb. There's actually an entire web page on the FL's department of licensing dedicated to providing instructions on how to pay for your fingerprinting process. Okay, so it's not hard to follow a page full of vaguely printed directions, just annoying.

    But, While I was at the Sheriff's office getting printed, the lady noticed that my middle name is hyphenated. - - - - - - - - - - - - - !
    Not that many, just one.
"Oh no, this might not work since your name has a hyphen in it. Let's see if It goes through anyways."
    (long moments of silence)
"hmm, not sure if it went through, let me ask someone."

What looked like to be this lady's supervisor looked me in the eye and assured me that my prints would go through despite having an odd character in my middle name.

I waited the two business days like they instructed me to and attempted to submit my payment online with this "CAPS" system only to find out that It indeed did not work. Just Great.

30 minutes of phone tag later with the Sheriff's office and the fingerprinting payment office, I still have no definitive results.

Update: the lady at the Sheriff's office sorted out the mess for me and was very polite about everything. Got everything finalized and sending it out with my money order today. The instructional packet said 2-4 weeks via electronic printing, how long did it take you guys?

Sounds frustrating! But....to add a silver lining to your dark cloud, even if this hassle takes you 2 weeks to get sorted out you will STILL get your permit at least a month quicker than if you did the paper prints.

    Good luck-

When i had my Electronic Prints done the sheriff office took a credit card right there, but man the lady that scanned my prints had to do it 4 different times to get it right it seemed like a pain good concept just needs to be more user friendly or something.

when I got my electronic prints done, I paid my money directly to them. I asked if there was any payment that needed to be done online or anything, and she said "you're all set". this was brevard county and i've been waiting for 26 days so far for my permit...

Funny story actually, my middle name originally had no hyphen in it. I had my name legally changed 2 years ago and the lady at the court house decided to edit my name for me and hyphenated it. really? what the.. ? She told me I couldn't have two middle names if there was no hyphen. Don't get me started on that process...

I don't know how it works all around the state, but I did paper prints and my license came in 39 days.

Had mine done at the Orange County SO, in and out in 10 minutes, utterly painless.

Mailed permit application, received permit 11 days later.

Just as an amusing aside, according to the nice lady who took my prints, they had a guy with active felony warrants come in for live-scan prints (she didn't specify what for).

He got a special tour of the station - and then a free tour of the jail.

I had my electronic prints done at the Leon County Sheriff's office. The fingerprint tech told me I could drop the application off at the License office and they will do a picture and notary for no charge. I believe this can be done at nay of the regional licensing offices but I'm not sure. The one in Tallahassee is on North Monroe across from the Mall. You might want to check with your local offices to see if they do it.
