Being a member of the Gun Owners of America (Click here --> "Membership: Benefits)" enables you to have access to some legal "direction". But it appears that it is more geared to those being hassled in ways other than post-shooting circumstances.

    Worth a look though.

    Fron the website:
    GOA's Legal Defense Program:

Aid is given to gun owners who are being harassed by government officials. GOA's resources have enabled defense attorneys to win stunning courtroom victories.

Your speed dial isn't going to do you a bit of good down at the precinct. Leave the number with several friends and relatives.
I don't know about Marty's organization, but am always leery of lawyer referral services and the "finders fees" that go hand in hand with so many.

FYI, the link to the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network has already been posted here:

I did a search before I posted. I just did it again. This is what I got.
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : armedcitizensnetwork

No super search powers have I, I just remembered where it was posted before.

But, if you type Legal Defense Network (spaces between words, no quotation marks) in the search box, you'll pull it up.

We will also have in place soon our own forum which will concentrate on use of deadly force issues, along with member discounts for training books and DVD's.

So, as you can see, membership in the Network is more than us helping you find an attorney!

    Just wondering,who made these DVD's?

Sounds like someone bought Ayoob's book and made it into a training manual.

Which is why I would be 1. dialing 911, then 2. 888-LAW-HELP (not a real no., by the way) before LE arrives. I have already talked to my attorney whose comment was: Don't say anything to anybody, especially LE.

Wife also has it. Probably should make sure the kids do too.

I got the number of the local FOP attorney that is first called whenever an officer is involved in a shooting or other encounter. He is not the attorney used for union negotiations.

Two different types of DVD's. The first, the ones which come with membership, are in production at the moment. They should be available by June 1st. They will be produced by The Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network, and will include advisory board members and attornies, and we are in the process of choosing those lecturers at the moment.

The discounted DVD's will be ones purchased from the different schools and media outlets, and we will make these available to our memberships at discounts.

    AZ:

Actually, we have a little more sophistication in our approach to this subject matter than this. Having said that, there is no mistake that Massad Ayoob has influenced our thinking in the area, afterall, there in no one more experienced in this field than he. I'll go ahead and explain a little about my background, so you and readers are more comfortable with who we are and what we are doing.

For the past 17 years, I have owned and operated my own school, The Firearms Academy of Seattle, Inc. When I first started teaching firearms to the civilian sector, I borrowed the A-O-J philosophy from my law enforcement training, and successfully educated my students in use of deadly force. In my third year of teaching firearms, I met Mas when I invited him out to teach a course at our range, and at that time, he filled in some of the blanks in my own education, which I of course, began sharing with my students.

After that time, I started working with Mas every year through the present, and have become one of his LFI staff instructors, assisting with teaching his whole array of courses, including his Use of Deadly Force Instructor training course, (which I helped develop).

In addition, during this time I also have served as an expert witness for several people who have been wrongfully charged with crimes involving firearms, along with police use of force issues. Out of that experience, I decided to augment my knowledge and education by attending law school, and I graduated with my Juris Doctor degree last year. During this law school experience, I decided not to pursue becoming a practicing attorney, although I will likely take a bar at some point in the future. Instead, at the urging of several folks, (many of whom are on our advisory board and are Network Affiliated Instructors), I formed the Network.

Coincidently, one of the reasons I decided to pursue this, was the enormous amount of mis-information which is spread on forums and boards such as this regarding the use of force for self-defense, and one of our goals is to elevate the quality of information shared on these boards. This will be a long-term endeavor, but we are up for that task.

So, as you can see, our experience in this field goes a little beyond reading a Massad Ayoob book, but for those who have not yet read "In the Gravest Extreme", you really should do so.
