I carry a surefire L2 light - it's a 60 lumen light that can temporarily disorient someone when you flash their eyes and can potentially double as a nice impact tool. No problems flying with it or going through security. When asked why do I carry it - I just say 'to see in the dark' and give a 'Duh' look...... Flying every week for several years - TSA in Philly, Cleveland, Boston, Canton, Dulles, Tampa and Houston don't even give the L2 a second glance any more.

This topic comes up from time to time, if you search you might find something, since the threads usually get shut down, due to it bein illegal to have weapons on airline flights.

Keeping SA and havin some H2H skills are pretty much the only preparations I have, aside from wearing a hat that covers up my haircut.

I would have thought that there are lots of ideas that are not illegal. For example, I did not think of a flashlight. I've also thought about a sturdy (not plastic) pen. Is that illegal?

Nope, a pen is not illegal, I'm not criticizing you for bringin up the idea, just giving you a heads up, it comes up every couple of months and doesn't usually last long.

But keep in mind too that this is a public forum, things that we know and see, the BG's can see and learn.

flashlights, pens, and walking canes are your friend in non-permissive environments. All are legal and with the possible exception of the walking cane (when carried by someone who obviously has no need of one), none are really looked at as weapons.

you will probably hear about padlocks in socks, soda cans in pillowcases, and quarters glued to the spine of a magazine but those types of items are much less ideal that the first three I mentioned.

If you carry in Condition 3, you have two empty chambers. One in the weapon...the other between your ears.

I don't fly without my SureFire E2D, Inova X5, and Mil-Tac Pen. Since you have lithium batteries in your checked luggage, I also carry my Surefire spare carrier which holds 6 extra CR123's and has an 18" paracord tether.

i fly with my surefire flashlight...120 lumens, and beveled head cap...very useful. and if there is a problem on the plane, most likely the lights will go out...finding your way and others to the exit, will be a priority...
I carry mine in a little pouch on my belt and have never had a problem.

I've worn a piece of 550 cord around my waist under my shirt.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

Never heard of that flashlight. That is a great idea.

Best advice is to pay attention in the "clean" waiting area. (Situational awareness) Know whose getting on your flight.

I always try to sit exit row/aisle...location, location, location...there's one front, one mid-plane, one rear.

I bring one red lens Pelican lite (so I can read when the main lighting is off), and my Scorpion Stream light in my backpack thru security...

Always clip my backpack to my carry on roller with a large aluminum rappelling clip...Cross pen is an aluminum body the writes very well

once aboard, I take what I might need to my pockets and store the rest in the overhead.

Also, I keep my cell phone handy (for the camera feature)...the "good witness" program
