Jay,
You will have a blast with your son at the race and since you are not a huge race fan you obviously don't have a favorite driver that you will be abnoxious about and so you won't have any problems with drunks or other Nascar fans. Nascar fans are some of the best fans in the world but they (we) are also very loyal to drivers and that's when fights start. They respect the family aspect of it and will see your kid and all will be fine.
As far as parking. It sounds like you might be parking offsite and then driving to the track?? If so, the best thing you can do is study the parking prior to going to the track and park out as far as you and your son can possibly walk. That will save you a couple of hours worth of waiting after the race. Nascar is backwards in parking and sitting...you want to park out as far as you can and sit in the stands as high as you can. I have been to 5 or 6 different tracks on the circuit and that works at every track. It might take you 20 minutes to walk to your car after the race but you'll be gone in no time after that. When we went to the All Star race in Charlotte we parked down the road that leads to some of the driver's garages and got out pretty quickly after the race....can't remember the name of the road though...sorry. Hope y'all have a really good weekend.
Also, tell your wife we all appreciate her service to her country. We wouldn't be here without the likes of her. God Bless.
