What's it called in your State?

Everyone basically referrs to a "CCW". Of course in reality, your license (or is it a permit in your State?) is often called something else (CCW, or carrying a concealed weapon, is actually a crime they charge you with for carrying without the permit/license in many jurisdictions).

Here in Michigan, it's properly termed a Concealed Pistol License, or CPL. And unlike some States, it covers pistols only, no other weapons such as knives etc. (broad definition of pistol includes all handguns here).

So, what State is yours from, and what's it's "proper" ABC nomenclature?

In Texas, it's a Concealed Handgun License.

In Virginia it is a CHP, Concealed Handgun Permit. Similar to MI it only allows for the CC of handguns.

In Texas, it's a CHL = Concealed Hangun License

Minnesota - we "carry". As in "Did you get your permit to carry" or "are you carrying?"

The press calls it "conceal & carry" which is sort of turning out to be a good thing. Anytime anyone uses that phrase it means they either haven't read the law or they get all their info from the media. MN does not have a concealed carry law, a CHP, CPL, or anything like that. We have a permit to carry.

In Indiana we are issued a "License to carry handgun"

it's GFL in georgia--Georgia Firearms License.

i don't really like that title, because it sounds like you HAVE to have one to own a firearm (which many who are unfamiliar with the law hear that and assume you do). can't wait to bypass the paperwork with it next time i buy a gun :)

In Florida, it's a Concealed Weapon or Firearm License.

It covers more than just a handgun. Knives, stun guns, impact weapons, etc.

Indiana-LTC, Or as zookeeper said, "LIcense To Carry". We have a four year or a lifetime LTC available.

Kansas is CCL, Concealed Carry License

CFP in MS

In Kentucky it is a CDWL or Concealed Deadly Weapons License. This covers every weapon including handguns.

In Kentucky it is legal for everyone to open carry a handgun.

In Maryland it's called "impossible to get"!

you guys suck. the GFL is ONLY for firearms. we can't carry any other weapon concealed, and knives must be either FULLY open carried (preferably of a hunting style during hunting season apparently :rolleyes:) or have a blade length of under 3". knives designed for "defensive or offensive purposes" are prohibited from carry, regardless of blade length or open/concealed status.

Washington State: CPL - Concealed Pistol License.

Not needed for open carry, unless you want to get into a Vehicle.
