    Universal CCW License

I travel around my state alot. (Live in PA). Traveling to New York, Ohio, Maryland, etc. Someone once told me its better to obtain a Florida CCW due to the fact its accepted in ALOT more states then my home state. Instead of acquiring a license for each state I travel in.

IS there a CCW that would be more useful to have then my own states?

Both New York and Maryland don't accept any other states, so theres no point in trying to get another state permit to honor those, and I'd recommend a Utah permit, those are useful.

In Nevada, they always recommend getting a Utah and Florida permit, which together, cover a great many States.

You can forget about getting a license to carry in MD, especially so as a non-resident.
Check into that states rules and regs for specifics.

As to NY if you are not looking toward NYC then your chances are better toward success.
If you are looking toward NYC though, see MD for an estimation of odds toward success.

Check the website handgunlaw.us for reciprocity on permits. It has a good map. Florida and Utah are both good states to have a permit from to cover a lot of other states.

If you are fortunate enough to get a Tennessee or Michigan permit, you will be good in the greatest number of states, not including NY and MD.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

For a PA resident, the UT permit is less expensive initially and for renewals, and gets you reciprocity in 2 more states than the FL permit (WA and MN). The only additional state the FL permit is recognized in (that UT is not) is KS, but KS only recognizes it for FL residents.

UT does require a course with a UT-certified instructor, but their website lists instructors in virtually every state. I took a course in Easton last year for $50.

While the Michigan license is a good one (by my count, I'm covered in 36 States with the recent addition of Nevada), unfortunately Michigan does not issue to non-residents (Michigan does honor all other States permits/licenses to residents of the issuing State though).

IIRC, NY law has NO mechanism to issue an NR permit to anyone.

Check and verify, but I do believe that to be the case.

as far as i know, you have to be a resident of a state to get a permit there. i know in georgia, they go as far as making you apply in your home county--like i couldn't travel to a neighboring county with a shorter average waiting time and apply their to get my permit faster.

That's not true in every state. UT, FL, PA, ME, and MA are some of the ones I'm aware of that issue to non-residents.

Did check and verified, you are correct.

So bottom line toward the OP he can forget about both NY and MD.

Pretty sure AZ does too.... not that it matters in this case.
