PITTSBURGH -- The Allegheny County Sheriff's Department arrested Reporter Rob Milford from KDKA Radio Monday morning.
The sheriff told Channel 11 News that a courthouse guard spotted a gun inside a briefcase that Milford put on a conveyor belt while entering through security.
The sheriff said Milford was asked if he had a permit for the weapon, and Milford replied he did not.
Milford is set to be arraigned Monday.
KDKA Radio released this statement: "It's very early and we are looking into what happened.
We're fully reviewing the situation and once we have more information we'll let you know as much as we can, as soon as we can.
This was not part of a news investigation.
I assure you Rob was acting independently.
We will be reporting on what happened, there will be no cover up."

PITTSBURGH -- A reporter from KDKA Radio was taken into custody by Allegheny County Sheriff's deputies after he allegedly brought a gun to the county courthouse Monday.
Rob Milford was going through security when a metal detector went off and a handgun was discovered in his briefcase, WTAE Channel 4 Action News reported.
Milford did not have a permit to carry the gun, so the weapon was confiscated, deputies said.
Officials with KDKA say Milford is a general assignment reporter who was at the courthouse to cover a trial. He has worked at the station since 2006.
A witness on Thursday showed up at the courthouse with a gun in her purse.
PITTSBURGH — A radio reporter was caught with a loaded handgun in his briefcase Monday as he entered a courthouse to cover a trial.
Rob Milford, 53, a general assignment reporter at KDKA Radio, was charged with possession of a firearm in a court facility and carrying a firearm without a license.
He was carrying a .38-caliber revolver, the Allegheny County Sheriff's office said.
Milford told authorities he didn't realize the gun was in his briefcase, said Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen. Milford acknowledged that he had possessed the gun for a while, but it did not belong to him, Mullen said.
Local authorities were asking the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help find the owner.
KDKA Radio General Manager Marshall Adams told The Associated Press the station was looking into what happened.
A phone number for Milford could not immediately be found. Adams wouldn't comment on whether Milford had an attorney.
Milford has worked at the station since 2006. Before that, he worked at Fox News Radio and CBS Radio covering everything from hurricanes to the Iraq war.
This is the second time in a week that someone has been charged with trying to bring a gun into the courthouse.
On Thursday, a woman who was a witness in a criminal case was arrested when security screeners found a semiautomatic handgun in her purse. She told authorities she didn't know the gun was in her purse.

not to be unkind but how dense is that? Not enough sensitivity to how serious pocession of a loaded weapon is!

I can understand with it being Barry Switzer not knowing it was in there.
Someone else maybe not.

Mullen said he had possession of the gun for a while but it didn't belong to him? and he couldn't or wouldn't tell the police whose gun it was? and he tried to bring it in a courthouse? and he didn't have a license?
Maybe he'll have time to write a book while he is in jail/probation explaining why he is a moron.

Can a moron realize he's a moron?

His problem wasn't taking the gun to the courthouse; it was not having a LTC and not informing the officer first. In PA carrying in a courthouse is a no-no, but they have weapons lockers so you can check your gun when you arrive and pick it up when you leave. Most deputies that work the security checkpoints see enough weapons coming in that it doesn't even phase them anymore.

Worked for notorious anti-gun Congressman Maurice Hinchey too.

Something similar to this happened to an Antigun nut case who was involved in some low level political position in Baltimore, he had a concealed loaded pistol ON at a high school! (Though he was one of those people who was strongly against a "shall issue" concealed carry in Maryland, total hypocrite.)
