Talking Came in contact with another armed citizen yesterday.

Stopped at the BP gas station to fill up the minivan ($53.00 OUCH!) and as I walked inside to pay for my gas, a truck pulled up and a fellow hopped out with a Glock on his right hip in a leather holster. He was just a head of me in line with 2 other people in front of him.

We said hello to each other and I asked what model Glock he had on and he told me it was a G23. He asked what model mine was and I told him that mine is also a 23. He commented on my Blackhawk SERPA holster and I asked him who made his. It was a custom Mitch Rosen rig.

After we both paid for our respective purchases, we talked guns and holsters for a few minutes. Both confirming that neither of us is a LEO and both of us commented on how nice it is to see others open carrying here in outer Shelby County.

    Shook hands and parted ways.

As I got back in the van my wife told me that as soon as she saw the gun on the other fellows hip she knew that this fill up was going to take a lot longer than usual. She was right, turns out I talked to him for about 10 minutes.

Wow . . . . and this comes after the earlier hoopla about "open carry" topics.

Sounds like you had a nice chat...

    Odd isn't it?

A pro-gunner sees another person with a gun and strikes up a conversation that ends with a friendly smile and a handshake...

An anti-gunner sees another person with a gun...wets his pants, calls 911 and reports the trouble, and runs away...

    Go figure...

I've had some great conversations with strangers about weapons and such.
In fact, I was with my wife (about 2 months ago) when she was buying a sewing machine. I commented to the guy working the counter (actually was the owner) that he should add a tool or gun section to the store to encourage husbands to come in.
The woman also working there said, "Guns? This guy loves guns!" Well, that did it...we talked while my wife picked out her machine...and the guy gave us a $100 discount to boot. It was a great visit for both of us.

    Stay armed...meet new friends...stay safe!

Hehe, reminds me of a Curb Your Enthusiasm plot or something. 'Prius' people wave to eachother. I haven't seen anyone open carrying around here in about 7 years.

Well, I will say that I have not been on here as much as I have been in the past. So, I think I missed any big dust up over OC lately.

It was not my intent to start a thread that runs contrary to any rule or strong suggestion and I apologize to Bumper if that is what I did.

I was just posting a thread about a great experience I had with a fellow carry'er and the fact that we were both open carrying is pertinent only because that is how we both knew we were armed.

I hope I didn't do anything that will start an argument.

From what I've been hearing about Memphis lately, you guys need to carry more than a Glock...

Well, if he carried an AR or shotgun on his back it would chafe too much as he rode his bike.

On a bit of a tangent, I've found over the years that the friendliest and most helpful group of people I've ever associated with has been the shooting community.

Just tonight after a local USPSA match a group of us were visiting and noting how people who have no knowledge of guns seem to immediately get "hooked" once they try shooting. We just need to keep generating such converts and our cause will be strenthened.

Well, I like both of your choices in holsters. But other than when I’m hunting, or backcountry fishing, or at the range, I never open carry.

Even if it where legal, (it’s not in Florida) I’d rather keep that as my little surprise.

There are so many liberals that have moved here from NJ and NY in this section of Florida that would be calling the COPs so fast reporting “there a mad man with a gun”.

And the SWAT team would arrive and escort ya out of Wally world.

Regarding Memphis… I feel for ya brother… Stay armed and alert.

although open carry is technically legal in michigan, and I have a want to do so, I feel it would be alot of hassle, and cause more problems for me especially with my business...that may sound like a cop out...but none the less is the reason why I have not done it...

it is nice to hear that you two didn't walk off ten paces between the pumps and turn the BP into the OK Corral...simply amazing.

I live in Indiana, and am from Michigan...both states where OC is legal. I have never seen anyone OC that I recall. They are in the vast minority as far as I can tell. I have caught a few people printing since I began to CC.

As of 2003 5.1% of Indiana had Carry permits, I found this statistic shocking. Source.

Since lifetime permits have been issued, starting in 2006, I would expect this % to steadily rise.

That's funny right there........wait, that's what the Brady Bunch keep's saying is gonna happen, the "wild west" stuff.....?!?

    Those silly gun haters.

Since I was old enough to pay attention I've noticed that piticular 'groups' of people are MUCH more polite, courtious, and respectful to everyone than most other 'groups' (or individuals for that matter). I think it goes beyond the "an armed socity is a polite socity" cliche'.

.........something like "be polite(nice), professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet."
"Just getting a concealed carry permit means you haven't commited a crime yet. CCP holders commit crimes." Daniel Vice, senior attorney for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, quoted on Fox & Friends, 8 Jul, 2008
