No firearms in OH turnpike service areas
I was returning home on the OH turnpike (80) from a meeting in Cleveland yesterday when I decided to stop for some lunch. I pulled into the service area at exit 91 and when I approached the door I spotted the red circle & slash through the gun sign on the door. I decided to get back in the car and move on.
I thought that the service areas on the turnpikes were state property and would fall under pre-emption laws? The building houses several different major fast food stores so I don't think / know that anyone of them could make the no guns decision for the whole.
Any thoughts?

Good luck with that. Even at rest areas in OH, there is the "no guns for law abiding citizens" sign on the rest rooms.

State maintained buildings are off limits per statute, just like elementary schools. I would suggest that those exercising their reciprocal rights in other states familiarize themselves with the law of the land, lest it bite you in the behind.

I also couldn't find a hotel that didn't have the sign on their door. Where I was unclear then was if that also prevented me from being legal by bringing my gun into my room while cased and then load it up. I figured I what I did behind the locked door of my room was my own business and did it anyway. Some states have a claus that address' this allowing a hotel room to be considered like someone's home.
At least it looks like OH may be changing the stupid CCW vehicle restriction that stated your firearm had to either be in your holster or locked in a case. You weren't allowed to have it in a console, door, under the seat.....

I think the Governor just signed a bill that will change that shortly.

He did. It isn't perfect but it is a major step in the right direction.

Didn't HCI (handgun Control Inc.) aka the Brady's push for all those at the rest stops. Anyway, I'm pretty sure your correct.

Well, I'll just add Ohio to the list of places I won't visit or travel through. I hate giving any of my money to people, businesses, cities, or states that have no respect for me or the Constitution.

Can't see how you can stomach living in North Carolina, then....seeing as how you can't even PURCHASE a handgun without a permit. Even applies to private transactions.
