    Nevada out of state carry?

    Hey all,
I posted a few days ago asking about firearms options for a trip to California, when I only had my Oregon permit. Well, some last minute itinerary changes has put me in Nevada for a couple days as well. Can I be carrying concealed here?? I know Open Carry is legal, but I don't want to open that can of worms. I can't find any reciprocity information as to whether NV recognizes an OR permit or not. Can't get handgunlaws to come up on my Blackberry! :-P Thanks for any help.

On a vaguely related side note, I'm here in Virginia City, and I think dang near every local here is packin'! Concealed or not, I've made more people walking down the street today then I have in the last year. Seems like a very gun friendly environment in this modern day cowboy town. I honestly wouldn't feel terribly out of place OCing here, but gonna be hitting Reno tomorrow, and don't think it'd blend in so well there. :-)

    Thanks!!

This web site says NV does not recognize Oregon.

Open Carry is legal in NV. Since you're going to Reno, you shouldn't have an issue.

Here's what Nevada State law has to say about weapons: NRS: CHAPTER 202 - CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY (Scroll through)

I open carry around Reno all the time. Including inside the casinos. No one here will bug you. And if they do, law enforcement is well aware of its legallity and won't give you a hard time. Enjoy your trip.

Nevada is a defacto open carry state and you may open carry if you choose. If you open carry in the high traffic tourist areas of Las Vegas you may have a visit from Metro or, Casino personel may/will ask you to leave the property if you open carry in any casino. If anyone in authority in any private establishment asks you to leave you must leave under Nevada's trespass law.

There is no restriction on having a firearm in your car, open or concealed as long as it is not concealed on your person (unless you have a permit).

If you have a permit that is valid in Nevada:

Recognition of permits issued by other states:

Out of State Carry Concealed Weapon Permit Recognition

    Effective Oct 1, 2007

In accordance with Senate Bill 237 passed by the 2007 Nevada Legislature the State of Nevada will recognize the following States' CCW permit holders:

Alaska, Arkansas, Florida (added January 3, 2008), Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan (added May 9, 2008), Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee and Utah

This law allows holders of valid permits from these states to carry a concealed weapon while in the State of Nevada. The permit must be in the possession of the issuee at all times while carrying a firearm.

Nevada Department of Public Safety - Records and Technology

NRS: CHAPTER 202 - CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY

    -----------------------------

You may carry concealed in Nevada ANYWHERE except:

    Buildings at the airport,
Schools (including colleges) and child care facilitys,
Public buildings (that means Government buildings) that are posted or have metal detectors.

NRS: CHAPTER 202 - CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY

That includes casinos, bars, clubs, restaurants, ANYWHERE. They may ask you to leave for any reason, or no reason at all, and, under Nevada's trespass law, you must leave.

You may drink whlie carrying. The BAC limit is 0.10 (DUI is 0.08, when they lowered it to get federal highway money they did not change the limit for CCW).

NRS: CHAPTER 202 - CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY

    -------------------------------------------------

I hope this clears up any questions. Nevada laws concerning weapons are, for the most part at NRS 202.253 through 202.369.

Have fun and please bring lots of money.

Sorry, but Nevada does not recognize your Oregon permit.

i exersize open carry in reno also. inclucing casino's and stores. ive been harassed by the cops a couple of times. they know its legal but they ask dumb questions like why do you need a gun, and why do you open carry when you have a ccw. i just tell them 2 things.
    1- because i can
2-having a gun is easier than strapping a cop on my back to be safe

    just open carry.

While open carry is a great idea, I would avoid the strip in Las Vegas. The cops are likely to get a "man with a gun" call, and your next meal may consist of concrete! And I understand, they need salt! In your car, you may carry it concealed (as long as it's not on your person). The exception to this is North Las Vegas and Boulder City. In those towns, carrying a gun concealed in the car without a CCW can get you jail time. You may want to consider getting a Utah permit, which will give you a lot of states, as well as Nevada.

These local ordinances have been preempted.

just what i was going to say. these ordinances are no longer valid. there's a forum on OCDO tracking contacts made with various city attorneys, mayors, and police chiefs regarding statutes voided by the new preemption law. most municipalities have responded positively.
