Well there was a thread, here or somewhere, about criminals in some town actually targeting knife carriers. They would come out guns drawn and overwhelm their victim, then strip him of valuables. The goal was to get guns, which they figured (correctly) that most knife carriers were also gun carriers. They were something like 4 for 5 on stolen guns before they were busted.

With that said, I open carry a tactical folder all the time. I may be crazy, but I don't particularly care if somebody knows that I am carrying a gun. I think that the knife and the gun deter bad guys. They don't want to get shot or stabbed anymore than you do.
I agree, I do notice people who are paying attention to whats going on around them. As far as I know, I've only been made when off duty and carrying once. That was because the wife and I were shopping for a car and I didnt think I would actually sit down and get the vehicle that day, so my cover garment wasn't large enough to not print when I sat down. The guy who made me worked federal L.E though in the past. I was told, however, before I became a LEO, that I acted like a cop. Must be the fact that I pay attention to my surroundings. LOL
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt
