Even when and if we get back our right to be armed in National Parks, you still need to carry your common sense with you.

If you get too close to the wildlife, tough - take your lumps and learn from it. In this situation you were the aggressor, and the animal is fully justified in defending itself from you. Putting your self in such a position is stupid, putting your kids or grandkids into it is criminal. This is not the same situation as hiking and being attacked.

And YES, I meant this to sound harsh. Now go buy a telephoto lens and sin no more.

Generally speaking, carrying and using firearms in National Forests is not prohibited. There are exceptions, however, most notably in the Southeast (falcon1's post, above) and in California (big surprise, there)!

To find firearms regulations for the National Forests, log onto US Forest Service - Caring for the land and serving people..

From the homepage, you can search for National Forests by State or by name.

Once you have a particular forest's homepage up, you can then find firearms rules for that forest by typing "firearms" in the search box or click on the FAQs section.

Good catch. I was thinking of rest areas being off limits.
