    SC Reciprocity

Didn't SC just recently change its law so it recognizes permits from all states that will recognize SC? When does that take effect.

The SLED site still shows the old information here:
    South Carolina Law Enforcement Division

I'm anxious to see SC and CO update themselves to recognize each other. CO recognizes any state that recognizes CO, though no longer recognizes non-resident permits.

Another forum member (and wife) here...waiting for the recognition.

I'm with you on this one. We enjoy going to SC (Myrtle Beach), but have not been back there...just hours away...since getting our CCW permits. If the state won't recognize our 'rights'...they won't get our $$$.

Thge new law took effect June 16, 2008. SLED has not posted the new list so I can't tell you what the hold up is. In my opinion for what it is worth and what you paid for it is that if you are from VA or FL or probably CO and were to get charged in SC right now it would get thrown out in court. However you could possibly have to go to court but I doubt it. Always that technicality and hot shot LEO that want to make a name for himself.

The new law says that we will reciprocate with any state that requires a background check and training. Any additional interpretations will be left to the courts.

... and it also says that SLED is to determine which states meet that criteria and publish a list.

This is strikingly similar to what we previously had. SLED has no time table to "make a determination" nor to "Publish a list". So, in fact, it appears they can drag their feet as they always have. I imagine that they may... I imagine they might just take their sweet time. This was not the version of the law that was preferred by many here... it conveniently enough is the one SLED preferred...

I hope I am wrong and they publish a list soon. But you see, they still must determine who meets the criteria. So they simply are still doing about what they used to do.

CONCEALED WEAPON PERMIT RETAIL PISTOL DEALERS (803) 896-7124

Someone call them and ask if they are doing anything or just sitting on their butts.

SLED - Used to be State Law Enforcement Department. I see now they have changed it. SC's version of FBI.

I contacted the SC NRA field rep. He, like everyone else is waiting for the word. One rumor is that recognition will not be extended to non-resident permits, even if one took the state training out of state.

Another thread mentioned an exemption for licenced hunters going to and from hunting. I already have my list of hunting licence agents.

I too would like to see PA pop up there. I guess I'm gonna have to break down and find a Utah certified instructor with in Pa and get a Utah non resident.
