    Reciprocity with SC

I am a full time Florida resident.

I also am a hunter who just joined a hunting club in SC. I didn't think to check for reciprocity prior to joining the club (might not have joined if I knew they don't reciprocate). But that leaves me with a serious lack of carry ability while in SC.

My question is, what state has the simplest process for acquiring a CCW permit for non-residents that SC will accept?

    Thanks

SC will not accept ANY state's non-resident permit. You have two options:

    1. SC recently changed its reciprocity laws and it is expected (but not guaranteed) that FL will soon be added to the states with reciprocity.

    2. If you purchase land in SC, you can apply for an SC non-resident permit.

I am led to believe that SLED is still acting like a bunch of little kids and taking their ball home, despite the new law demanding that they act on reciprocity. Is there any time schedule for SLED to get off their butts and do the review?

Buying land is not an option.
Damn GFW lawmakers and silly anti-CCW LEO's.

Since you say you joined a hunting club it is legal in SC to carry while hunting or fishing or on the way to or from hunting or fishing as long as you have a hunting/fishing license. This is does not require a CWP and a sheriff advised me to use that loophole if I needed it if caught open carrying. As long as you behave you really shouldn't have any problems as most LEO don't really care as long as you aren't waving it around or causing trouble.

After that conversation with the Sheriff I emmediately checked to see if my license was up to date.

Thanks. My concern is with the rest of the time. While I am hunting, I will have a rifle handy. .270 beats 9mm every time.

I may spend as much as 9 days at a clip up there and I can't imagine I will spend it all in hunting camp and I just hate being unarmed, especially due to silly agency feet dragging.

SC does not honor non-resident permits. You have to be a resident of the state issuing the permit so that does no good.

Don't dismiss the land option so quickly; think outside the box. I'll bet if you contacted a SC realtor (especially in a small town), they could come up with someone who would sell you a small piece of land at a reasonable price. The law does not say how much land you need to own (a vacant lot somewhere?).

You would still need to take the SC concealed weapons class to get a CWP.

Does SC have unlicensed open carry as an option?
"The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree..."

Sorry no open carry but you can keep a loaded handgun in the glovebox or console without a lock.

As a member of the Hunters Club do you have Real Property rights.
If so you may be entitled to a non-resident CCW.

    Check it with the club..

    I hate SC.

I thought about that. Not completely sure about the lease specifics, but I am pretty sure it is a privately owned peace of land and we just lease the wildlife rights, nothing more. If it was sort of like a timeshare, I might try that angle.

as to the vacant lot thing. I just don't have $10-30K spare right now. Between my gun addiction, my hunting addiction (some cross over) and trying to get a new business off the ground, lets just say extra money isn't spilling from my pockets.

Speaking of the timeshare if you own a beach condo you qualify for the permit. My mother had one and seldom used it but we rented it out for more than enough to make the expenses and payments plus a little profit. Due to her health we recently sold it, should have sold it a year sooner. I don't know how all the timeshares work but there are some that you could qualify for the permit with. All you need is a statement from the county treasurer showing that you paid property taxes in SC.
