Great video and example of working as a team. But man, he was close to that little girl.

That video has been around awhile but it does show how quick things can happen. Not much time to think while being robbed.

This is the first "related" video in the list...

YouTube - Some hillbillies decided to pester the wrong guy!

This is wild, I think the guy acted a little too kindly, and should have used the cam as evidence, not compensation. Crazy what stress does to the mind. Can you say "Self defense turned Armed Robbery??"

It's all fun and games until you are staring at a chamber. But yeah, he turned a self defense situation in to robbery, even though he was an idiot for the selective sign language he used.

The hillbilly video is a fake. It has been discussed multiple times on THR.

    You beat me to that.

    In regards to the original:

If someone could post a link to the original thread that would be great.

For those who comment how close he was to the little girl, I would like to share something my martial arts master said once:

"An inch is a mile when it comes to life and death."

Would I ever want to be put in the situation where my bullets could pass that close to an innocent. The answer is a resounding NO!

But that man did what was neccessary and made the hard decision to take action to defend himself and others.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

Wish we had some more details such as if the robber was hit or not.

People think that at 2-4 feet they can't miss, but it happens all the time.

The shooter in this video did a pretty good job at engaging. Did a pretty good job at remaining vigil and at the ready if robber returned.

For those concerned that the woman and child was pretty close, if not too close... Guess what? That's the way things happen in real life!

Another thing you must realize regarding close bystanders.... Don't underestimate the effects of "Tunnel Vision!" While not sure, it can be a safe assumption that the motel clerk was totally focussed on the robber and lost sight of the woman and child.

You have to be careful when engaging, but in reality that is the way things often play out.

You can sit here at a computer screen in the comforts of your home and using "detached reflection," monday morning quarterback this until the cows come home. "he should have done this"... "he should have done that"... Doesn't mean a thing!

Bottom line is, you have no idea how it is going to play out in real life and in real time until it happens.

More than likely, it won't play out exactly how you want it to either!

It plays out how it plays out!

If you are not prepared for that, and are not willing to accept the consequences for your actions or your shots fired, then maybe carrying a gun isn't for you.

That said... and using the benefit of "detached reflection," we can learn from this video and attempt to ingrain in our brains hard wiring, things he did right and things he could have done differently.

Remember this... I'm not saying you must shoot every time you draw your gun... but, once the gun comes out of your holster, you better be committed to going all the way! Hesitation can get you killed. From the time he made his draw until he started firing, was probably well under 2 seconds.... and that included a momentary duck. He may have fired before he ducked... I just didn't see any muzzle flash.

All in all, I think he did a good job!

Yes... the robber was hit 2 or 3 times, I believe.

This is a situation, I would not have shot. No threat to life. I'm not that interested in protecting the cash register or the money in it. Nor , would I shoot that close to the people at the counter, but the guy was obviously a very good shot, well practiced, and had good placement of his shots ... so it may have been no concern in that sense.

I wondered who might be standing outside with bullets whizzing past them.

But, was what he did legal ? That's a whole different question, and I think in this case... given the laws here, he would be considered justified in what he did and should not face any kind of charges. He has a right to protect property where he works, since he is charge / responsible for that property. If I were a DA investigating it, he would walk with no issues.
