Not in MI, unless you both have CCW's.

    What's the PA law say?

    Huh?

Is there some gun registration scheme there or something where you have to tell them what gun you carry or what?

In Florida, your CCW permit does not list the specific gun or caliber, so you can carry anything.

Here in MI the State Police website has lots of good data. I figured that yours might have some, too. Try starting here: PSP: Carrying Firearms

And then if all else fails, just give your State Police a call.

AFAIK, there is no gun registration. However, in certain states (NV?), you can only carry the firearm that is on your permit.

If you do not have such a restriction in PA, you can carry any/anyone's pistol you like (provided you have their permission--they aren't going to claim you stole it, right?)

Then again, I recall some PA LEOs like to check serial numbers to see if it is stolen...so I don't know what to tell you. Legally, you can carry anyone's gun.

When my parents visited, my dad would bring his P239 (before I got mine)...and I would carry it here in VA.

That's correct, in Nevada you can only carry the weapons you qualified with and have listed on your permit but... no serial numbers are recorded (in Northern Nevada, I don't know about Vegas, it's been Californicated.) so if I have a Springfield 1911 .45 on my permit, I can carry ANY Springfield 1911 .45, even one borrowed.

To the OP, if I were you, I'd get a copy of all the CCW laws for your state and not rely on what anyone "says"!

Apparently in New York State, you can only use the guns you have listed on your ccw permit.... How's that for sucky?

Didn't the place you took your CCW class from provide you with any information?

In some states you must qualify with a specific number of guns; three being typical. In other states YOU are qualified, not the guns so it doesn't matter.

    From the MSP website:
Is it okay if I loan my pistol to a friend?

MCL 28.432 An individual can carry, possess, use or transport a pistol belonging to another individual, if the pistol is properly licensed and inspected under the Act, and the individual carrying, possessing, using or transporting the pistol has obtained a license to carry a pistol concealed permit from Michigan.

    source: Michigan Legislature

Only the person carrying the pistol needs a CPL.

If you used your Dad's gun in self-defense... all he has to do is verify he gave it to you last night as a gift, from a father to his son. And, that's only if it's an issue in your State. Discussion would be over.
