My wife is the only person that knows I carry a firearm. I see no reason to share the information with anybody else. As I use a Smart Carry holster, the chances of anybody else knowing I carry is extremely unlikely.
How many people know you carry, either via your sharing this information or them by discovering it on their own?
I really don't care who knows. I don't understand this attitude of hiding in the closet.
I want people to know that a lot of their neighbors carry. That it's not that unusual. We're not felons or pedophiles that have to hide what we do.
People fear what they don't understand or know. let them see their friends, doctors, co-workers carry and there's nothing to be afraid of.
God and just about anyone on the internet that cares to search....
I was one of the fortunate people who was "outed" by the (now) former Sheriff to the press under the old Ohio law - and then the press having nothing better to do with the information printed our names and addresses and put it online...
law has since changed, also had to ask permission to carry in church - unlicensed carry is a misdemeanor (licensed w/o permission is a felony)
Only my wife and mother know for a fact that I carry whenever I can. I have a good friend who likely knows just from knowing and observing me, but it's part of my discipline not to bring it up. If he wanted to talk about it, I'd have no problem doing so.
A couple of training buddies know my equipment and philosophy, but aren't a regular enough part of my life to know my daily habits. I'm considering whether to inform my pastor, just so he's not surprised in case some congregant with sharp eyes chooses to make an issue of it.
I don't advertise I have a license - but a few people are aware of it. 3 people are aware that I carry (others who know I have a license may suspect or not suspect it). My brother (who also carries - we have discussed carry quite often), his daughter (who knows he carries as well) and my daughter.
In the past my wife has gotten upset about me carrying, I simply found it was easier to conceal than convince.
I don't think anyone knows for sure. I live alone and pack 24/7 were legal. My friends know I shoot and talk about defending one's self. Some friends saw me packing at the range and have asked me at other time's when I met them out. I alway's smile and say no. I keep it quite about packing. If they ask about carrying I give them all the info I have about firearms and holsters web sites etc.
My feelings and situation are exactly the same as yours - my wife is the only one who knows (except those that read various gun forums), I use a SmartCarry 24/7/365, no one else has a need to know.
My husband, kids (though little) bros/sisters, mom and close friends. There are several people at church who also carry and know my husband and I do as well. I don't go out of my way to hide the fact that I carry, but I certainly don't advertise either. It's pretty easy to feel someone out to see if they are anti or not. I don't cultivate friendships with those who are anti...after all what would we have in common?
The majority of my family lives in an anti-gun state, so while they know I carry, they probably can't actually grip the reality that I can have my gun, loaded, on my person.
My wife, children, some other family members and a few friends. Besides, with six kids, the max number of five was blown away before the counting even began! :hand5:
I didn't count the government since I have no idea who knows there and can't do anything about it anyway.
Lots and lots of people. I'm an instructor so every student I have ever taught knows. Having people know I carry kind of goes with the territory and is unavoidable. I have never found it to be a problem.
Everyone that lives in my house, counts 4 beyond me.
Someday I'll tell my dad -- he lives in Miami and is former military. I'm hoping he is carrying already! Maybe, if he's not, he might rethink that knowing the choice I've made...
I've got another friend here I've been thinking of telling, someone was robbed at gunpoint on his street a few weeks back. He's former military, but, doesn't even own a gun now.
Guess I tell those who are going to find out anyway (living under my roof), and those who I think need to carry and have a fair chance of coming to that assessment themselves (with a little prompting) and then acting on it.
My wife, 4 kids and son in law pretty much blew me past the five count. A couple other people that I shoot with occasionally also know.
