    AMTRAK Travel

Any of you guys have any experience with travel on Amtrak?

I'll be taking a trip in October and would like to know if I should expect anything special.

Any good/bad experiences or advice will help me to prepare.

Thank you in advance for any help you can shoot my way.

You'll be unarmed...not even in a suitcase, but you'll enjoy the scenery.

Wonderful way to travel, For Sheep!!!

Sorry, have a great trip, but I refuse to go anywhere that I am forced to disarm.

Really wanted to take the train from Orlando to Atlanta last year. Figured it would be a great experience for our 8 year-old and a reasonable alternative to an 8 hour drive. The exorbitant cost stopped us. As I remember, the round trip cost for 3 of us was in the neighborhood of $2500. No sleeper compartment or anything fancy.....just an overnight ride on the train. Too bad really......

At least when flying you can pack your handgun in your checked luggage; not so with Amtrak.

I read that firearms are not allowed on Amtrak trains.

I know that the question wasn't directed at me, but a big fat 'Hell no!' would've been my answer. Not ever flying commercial again until we return to 1950s or so rules for firearms.

Apparently that will have to be my AMTRAK travel policy as well.

Train travel IMHO is very relaxing and would love to do it more, but that pesky 9mm on my side won't let me.

    What about pepper spray?

Is pepper spray not allowed in checked baggage, too?

I ride Amtrak every other month out of DC, and every time I get on, there is a K9 that walks up and down the isle of the train. I'm not sure what they are trained to detect, but they are there.

Not comfortable putting my weapon on a plane, with a big label that says "GUN" on the bag. To much theivery going on at airports.

I know the dogs are trained to sniff out explosive materials, but was wondering if they can sniff out pepper spray, too?

All I can say is that they will never get any of my money with that kind of policy!
