My wife's permit application is in
Well, my wife finally got the requisite paperwork filed with the Sheriff and the letters have gone out to her 4 character references. The primary reason she applied is that when her father died, her brother didn't have a permit, so they had 45 days to either get my father-in-law's pistols on someone else's permit, or they would have to be turned in to the Sheriff for disposal. (I'm sure you could hire someone with a FFL to do the deed while you applied for your permit if you really needed to).
She had discussed getting a permit with a few wives at work who were in the same boat (and she asked her boss to notarize her permit app, so it was no secret).
One of the ladies asked the personnel director where she works if concealed carry was allowed on the premesis. She was shocked anyone asked and inquired "is someone carrying a gun?!?!?!?!". My wife probably would not be allowed to carry at work due to the nature of the business, but the shocked reaction tells a lot. If there wasn't a policy prohibiting it before, there probably is now.
That's one of the good things about NY. If you do get your permit, not a lot of places expressly prohibit concealed carry because not a lot of people do it.
