    Erie County New York

There is a good possibility that I will be relocating from Florida to Erie County, New York. The Greater Buffalo area.

I would certainly appreciate any information from current Erie residents and comments about how friendly they might be on concealed carry.

I have heard a number of real horror stories, but would appreciate a clear picture of what I might be facing. I've legally carried for years in Florida and Virginia.

Thank in advance for the assist and intel.

    Respectfully, MSG USA

From what I have heard it takes up to 8 months for a permit in Erie Cty. and they issue restricted permits...

Lucky for you, you can carry a snow shovel in Buffalo almost anywhere for self defense. A ccw permit will depend on your judge and his opinion of firearms.
It is surely true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Nor can you make them grateful for your efforts.

I can help you get the feeling.

While you're still in FL, head down to Miami, ask around about where the most dangerous area(s) are...then leave your gun at home and head out for a midnight walk through the worst area you can find. If you make through the stroll, you will have pretty much experienced what it feels like to be unable to defend yourself...in NY...not a good feeling.

Hope you don't have to go.

Stay armed...while you still can be...stay safe!

Upstate NY is not that bad. But it will take a few months to get your permit. It's up to the county judge that you get assigned to.

    Good luck!

I live in Buffalo and it took me about 9 months for the issuance of mine. Erie county has a 3-tiered permit structure:
    1. Hunting & Target (Allows for lawful ownership & possession of handguns)This level does not allow you to carry concealed. Your weapon must be transported unloaded with ammunition stored in a separate locked container.
    2. Business Protection. This allows for carrying to and from business or employment or workplace. Cannot carry outside of business hours or at your leisure.
    3. Unrestricted Concealed Carry. This is the highest level and obviously the most sought after. I had my CCW permit under Business Protection for over two years before I was able to get it upgraded to Unrestricted.

Almost ALL applicants who aren't flatly denied or politically connected (Erie County and NY in general is a "May Issue") are given Hunting & Target. From there you have to re-apply for upgrades.

Erie County is a cesspool of democrat bureaucratic do-nothings. Best of luck to you during the application process, you'll need it.

Sorry but youare DEAD WRONG on that.

NY is a" May Issue" State when it comes to actually CARRYING a
    weapon.

A County Judge can FLATLY REFUSE to issue a license without
restrictions , without even giving a reason , and NY Law allows
    you NO effective Legal Recourse!

Keep in mind that restrictions on your permit are administrative only. NY State issues 2 permits: A NY State carry and a NY City carry. Unless you are a rich celebrity trolling this board you can forget about the NY City permit. If you are issued the NY permit which takes 6-12 months and it has restrictions they are not going to get you arrested if you do not abide. You will lose your permit, but I rather be safe.

There are reasons for 24 hour ranges in NY.

To all who responded, thank-you. Your comments are very informative. I too hope that I WILL NOT have to relocate to NYS. Maybe Erie, PA would be close enough to get the job done? Thanks again. Stay Safe and Up-range.

If faced with a work related transfer, I think I'd look for another job before moving to DYL.
