I am new here, hello to all.
I just aquired my CC permit here in Maine. I downloaded the "Laws relating to Permits to Carry" from the Maine State Police website.
Question for fellow Mainers, is there another set of laws/rules that give more specific answers to some of my questions?
eg; When/How to announce to LEO when carrying?
Where and where I cannot carry in this state?
Anyone know?

here in mich. it's the law that we must inform leo
but only if we're carrying at that time. not sure about
maine. there are alot of members here with real good
advice and so on. and we have afew c.c.ers from
maine as well. besides your state police website,
you might also try your state A.G.'s website. there
should be info about maine's ccw laws.
where you can and can not carry and so on.

When dealing with an LEO, I volunteer the information even if in a juristiction that doesn't require it. And for God's sake don't just start out the conversation by saying "I HAVE A GUN"! He/she just MIGHT take it the wrong way. The best way to do it (IMHO) is to say something to the effect of "Before we get started Officer (Trooper, Constable, Deputy whichever is appropriate) I wanted to let you know I have a permit to carry a concealed firearm. What would you like me to do?" At that point wait for them to make the next move. They will probably ask where it is and may or may not ask to see the permit. I've yet to have them ask me to be disarm and they usually appreciate being told in advance of them finding out. I don't think I need to recommend NOT opening your jacket and showing until you're asked.

I've read the Maine booklet cover to cover several times and the only explicitly prohibited locations I can find are establishments that serve alcohol which are also posted with a sign prohibiting carry.
I won't go on school grounds either. I'm sure you'd get jacked up whether it's in the book or not.

Out of curiosity how long did it take for your ME permit?
I sent off for a ME non-resident a month ago and they cashed the check 1-2 weeks ago. Some others have said they waited 3-4 months to get theirs.
