I just sent in my applications at the end of Aug. Called today to see if they got it and they said they don't know because they haven't gotten to the ones from july yet. :(
Congrats on getting your FL permit! It sounds like you may be going to the gun show to pick up a carry gun, exciting times! Practice shooting often and always carry, even if you don't feel like it, it will soon become second nature, good luck.
The first time you aren't armed and prepared may be the last time you wished you were.
In my state (NC), you either have to get a pistol purchase permit ($5 each, 5 day wait and max of 5 at a time), unless you have an NC CHP.
In FL with a CWP ,you can walk out the door the same day with your new toy, BUT there is a still a $5 charge for a background check. The law was changed several years ago, before there was no additional backgorund check, your VALID FL CWP was good enough..
I hear horror stories all the time about long waits, turn downs, and other SNAFU's. Makes me appreciate Ohio that much more. In 2004, when I got my initial permit, it did take a while (about 4 weeks) since that was the year that Ohio went to a "shall issue" program. When I had my permit renewed, it was 20 mintues in the Sheriff's Office, and 4 days until I had my permit. The reason it took that long is that the first permits were good for 4 years, and a lot of them were coming up for renewal about the same time.
I live in a rural county in Ohio, so maybe that's also one of the reasons that the wait was minimal.
As for buying hand guns, I go to the local gun store, and can walk out with a new toy withing half an hour. Got to fill out the Federal form, but there's no $5.00 permit fee, and no waiting. Even if you don't have a CCW.
Ironically, the former Governor (Bob Taft) was a Republican and completely against CC in Ohio. He barely had a room temperature IQ, and looked (and even acted) like Chevy Chase. The current Governor, Ted Strickland, is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment as well as CC. Go figure. The first time in a long time I've voted for a Democrat. Probably won't happen again in my lifetime.

Congrad's and have fun at the gun show.
[QUOTE=retsupt99;849205]What's happy about taking off your gun and unloading it?
Who does this?... Sheep?... wait sheep don't carry.
disarming is not required by Florida law. conceal it! do your part, and no one will ever know, not even the F.H.P guys looking real close.
I carried full size heckler&koch usp 45 under a polo shirt(in a minotaur crossbreed),at the orlando show, no probs(and i noticed them paying CLOSE attention to everyone's hips). enjoy the show, i may go sunday

Sweet! That makes two of us going to the gun show.
