Up to you. I never answer.... I just ask them a question about something else like I never heard the question in the first place. But, the only people that know are immediate family and one friend.

Up until recently I always carried open. On the seat beside me while driving, locked up in console when parked. While on my Harley I wear (wore) a paddle holster in plain view and would carry open into my office and would keep it in my desk during the day. Now that I have my permit I'll carry a sub compact and never tell anyone other than the Police. I may still wear open on my Harley, it's interesting the looks you get from people on the road.

My boss was surprised to see the gun the first day I rode and wore jeans. I reminded him that we have a lot of contractors that work for us and few of them are paid on time. As the director of construction, I'm not taking any chances.

I think that my response would be, "why do you ask?"

I just say that's a private and personal question and I just don't respond to those kinds of questions. Then I smile and just stand there, walk off, or change the subject. I will not tell anybody if I do, or don't, carry. I have maintained that policy for more than 40 years.

Q:Do you have a gun on you?

A: There are a few ways to find out. Asking is not one of them.

No, sorry, she's not blonde, but very, very "new age". If I weren't in public at a restaurant when she said that I would have burst out laughing!

I've been asked about the theory of CC numerous times, never about it in regards to me personally unless I had offered that information. (I tend to be a political activist when i comes to CCW)

Simple answer: "Can't hurt, might help. So why wouldn't I?"

Like some have already said....it depends. Generally I'd lay down some psycho babel on a total stranger and make them forget about what they asked and get off on a totally different subject. If it's the Wal Mart door greeter, I might not be so kind.

I don't think that it needs to be the secret of the century. Concealed in this case is visual concealment. There is a difference between being concealed and nobody knowing. The law requires concealment only. All my close friends know, much of my family knows, and some of the people at work know (but I know about them as well ;). If you can't socialize with other gun owners/carriers, who can you socialize with?

If somebody asks, there is a good bet that they don't need to know. I'll decide who to tell and not to tell. I'd look at them weird and ask, "Why would I need to carry a gun?" or something similar.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.

My friends who know I carry are not going to ask because more than likely they are too. In fact one friend requires I come to his house "fully dressed". As too being blind sided is public, I'm not sure how I'd react.

    I like these two:

My standard response is "don't give me a reason to let you find out!" That usually ends the conversation!
I carry a gun because cops are too heavy!
