I want to clear up campus carry

I'm very confused about campus carry in the United States in general. According to OCDO it appears a number of states do allow carry on campus. It seems tho that it is illegal in most states. I plan on going back to school within the next year and according to the map I can carry in PA on campus. I am yet to find a statue or law prohibiting that. This seems like one of those issues that it is illegal across the board because of VA Tech and various other thing I've heard, hence why I am confused

So what is the real deal about concealed carry on campus? Is it legal or not?

In Colorado the law does not allow carry in public schools from highschool down.

    College/university is OK BUT.........................................

Most colleges/universities say they can make their own rules and say it is illegal. They also have specific rules that say employees and students can't carry or else you will be fired or expelled. The attorney general's OPINION is that this is legal for the schools to go against the state law.

    BUT................

If you are caught carrying with a permit they will only escort you off the campus. They say it is illegal but campus police won't arrest you. If you refuse you will be charged with trespassing etc....

Read into this what you want.

CSU has publicly said that they will follow the state law (as all colleges should)

This is probably the one issue with respect to CCW that hasn't been settled in CO.

While carry is not prohibited by law in many states, the schools do have regulations prohibiting it. You however appear to be safe in Pennsylvania. Utah no doubt is the best situation, carry there is almost encouraged by the legislature.
I remember when I attended the University Of New Mexico back in the early '70's, we had a campus gun club and guns were even allowed in the dorms. My how times have changed.

I'm not worried about "rules", I'm worried about what will put me in jail. My company has rules that I can't carry at work, but I do anyway because its not against the law. From what I can tell I can legally carry a concealed handgun on campus in PA.

Violating the rules may not put you in jail, but in many states, it may well put you without a CHL permit.

Personally I would like to keep my permit.

Campus Carry in PA is perfectly legal. You are fine to do it as I did last year and plan to do again in January when I am up in PA working on some of my grad school courses. That said, know depending on the school if you get caught you may be expelled. That is the most they can do.

Also it WILL NOT cost you your permit in PA. The COLLEGE has no legal right to take you permit. I am Very Familiar with PA LCF law, I just moved out of PA and carry still on my PA permit.

FWIW my seminary specifically does not have a no weapons policy and there is no thought of putting one in place. (as per the dean of students)

Outside of Utah, I think Colorado State? and Blue Ridge CC in VA allow CCW on campus. There may be a few others, but in general the university bans it, not so much the state.
Hopefully SCCC can wake people up. I think it would take a law like Utah has to allow carry since the people that run most of these universities are lefties who think University policy will stop people who want to kill

In (I think) 2004, the University of Oregon was challenged for the right to carry. The Oregon Firearms Federation (Oregon Firearms Federation) fully financially backed the student who filed the lawsuit. Unfortunately, essentially nothing happened, and there was some kind of standstill. I know of some students who quietly carry on campus -- there has never been an expulsion, but there are at the same time no "clear" rules on the subject because it has never been a problem and there have never been any instances where folks have gotten caught with them, legal or not.

I stuggle with the issue. I can't imagine there be any possible way I could be made as all I carry is an LCP in my pocket that doesn't imprint and no chance of exposing by a lifted shirt, etc, but being expelled or even going through a long drawn-out process proving that I should have the right, blah blah doesn't sound like a good time. But at the same time, perhaps it's just what the school and state needs to bring the issue into the public eye....
It is utterly illogical to believe that passing laws to reduce gun violence will be successful when those who are commiting the gun violence do not obey the law.

concealed means concealed...the only time anyone will know you have it is if you have to use it to save your life or someone else's. In that situation, if you're still alive when the dust settles, you'll be better off than if you hadn't been carrying.

From what I understand about Pennsylvania is that you are not breaking any laws if you have your LTCF and have a concealed gun on your person on a college campus. HOWEVER, the college will have some policy against firearms and you can be certain you will be expelled if found out.

SC is shown to be prohibited by statute. And that is partially correct but requires a little bit of fleshing out. What it really says is that you cannot carry without the permission of the local authority. So... it is not completely off limits. But you would have to get permission to do so.

In Oklahoma, those of us who have the CHL are legally barred from carry on state college or university campuses, unless we have permission from the president of such campus (ha!). Actually we are like Texas to some extent in our law -- it is OK to have a gun in your car, parked on campus but you are barred from carrying it inside a campus building. Because of the events at Virginia Tech, there was some effort to get this changed but it didn't get very far.
Anti-gunners seem to believe that if we just pass enough laws, we can have utopia. Unfortunately, utopia is NOT one of our choices.

Yeah, no kidding. When I went to High School in the early eighties down in N/W Ohio, we used to have our shotguns in the back windows of our pick-up trucks, ammo in the glove boxes. AND never locked the doors.

Today, well.....I am a public school teacher here in Maine and I can't legally carry my pocket knife in school.
