Flying from FL to AR today

I'm sitting here in JAX airport waiting to board so I decided to post regarding my experience so far. I'm flying Delta, the lady at check-in was very nice, she had me sign the unloaded tag after she glanced in my lock-box, then had me put back in my bag and off it went. My only concern right now is I didn't see a TSA padlock put on it. Maybe it gets put on the suitcase once it's in the baggage loading area. Delta also just marks the bar code with an X, not a firearms sticker (very pleased). I'm post an update once/ if I make it into AR with my guns. (PT145 and P3AT). Wish me luck.

    Hi Blackjack,

Not sure what you mean but you have to supply the TSA padlock yourself! They do not put it on for you!

I recently went from Newark, NJ to Phoenix and had my gun case double padlocked, with non-TSA compliant padlocks, locked to a security cable that was wrapped around some internal luggage hardware inside a TSA padlocked hardsided suitcase!

If your guns make it through ok, do yourself a favor and buy yourself a luggage lock. Not that it will do much good for a determined thief but no reason to make things easy!

    Good luck!

After my weapon is inspected...I lock it...then I put it in the luggage...no stickers or mention of a weapon on the outside of the luggage...looks like all of the other luggage.

    Only my take...

Do not use a TSA lock on your gun case. The regulations say that only you should have the key to to case and if it is a TSA lock then everyone in the airport has a key to it. Use a TSA lock on your luggage but not on your gun case.

You didn't carry your bag to the TSA guy to check after the Delta lady got done.
She just put it on the belt?

Different airports have different procedures. I fly out of Daytona most of the time, and it goes right on the belt after the agent checks. When flying out of Denver, I had to escort the bag to TSA and watch as they checked the weapon and provided them with direction when relocking and buttoning up the bag. A lot of smaller airports (Lafayette, LA, Brownsville, TX, etc.) have a TSA counter adjacent to the ticket counter and they physically inspect the weapon and bag with you standing right there.

A user provided TSA lock should be placed onto the piece of luggage if the firearm is in another container inside. The container securing the firearm must be fitted with a non-TSA lock.

Yup. Me, too. After lots of experience, this is the best combination I've found. I was at the range today and managed to do consistent Mozambique drills with both in under 3 seconds from 5 yds (P3AT) and 7 yds (PT145). Slow fire got 2" groups at the same distances with both guns.

    Update

Made it to AR, no issues, no TSA agents either. Spending most of time at Baptist Medical Center which has a big sign on the main entrance stated no concealed firearms allowed! AR law says that the sign makes it illegal for me to carry in the hospital, which I kind of understand, until they put us next door to a BG gunshot wound survivor with an armed guard, chains, etc. This guard has 3 or 4 rooms he's monitoring! Whatever, we got moved to a new room today, so I guess it's a non-issue now. Sorry for the rant. Hopefully my travel back to FL will be just as non-eventful.
