What do I need to do to possess a handgun in my apartment in NYC? What about a rifle or shotgun? Links to applying would be appreciated. Not for me, it's for my son. Thanks.

NYPD - Permits
As I understand the situation , if your TIME is worth anything to you,
it's best to hire a specialized firm.
They do pretty much everything other than signing the paperwork.
You just pay them and wait.

There is an atty mentioned here in another link somebody will post his name, I would not use Edelmans. I have dealt with them before not that they are bad but NYC is tough not impossible but tough.
If his prints and NCIC checks come back ok he will not have any problems. It takes about 4-6 months, they make you wait, to get you permit and first purchase order. The premises permit also allows one to go to the tange to practice. The permits in NYC are restrictive, but getting one issued (home protection) is not a problem if you have a clean record.
Per the NYPD site, he must be 21 for handgun/rifle or shotgun permit, and their fee's are outrageous. $340.00 non-refundable + $94.25 for finger printing with live scan, if manual fingerprints are required make it $105.00. $450.00 just to possess a gun is ridiculous. No wonder they have so many "illegal" guns on their streets.
Freedom doesn't come free. It is bought and paid for by the lives and blood of our men and women in uniform.

I read the FAQ's that were listed on that site. I looked on the map but could not find NYC. What part of Russia is it in? Or is it in N. Korea?
A person is justified in the use of deadly force, if such person reasonably believes deadly force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to such person or a third person.
Did you know....Self-Defense is NOT a valid reason to carry on a NYC application? But protecting $ is....! Priorities....

You do not need any assistance in getting a NYC ( non carry) pistol permit or rifle shotgun permit.
If you have no issues just apply in person and you will get it.
Yes, I am no fan of our stupid gun laws, but disobey them at your own risk.
