Check with the NRA for lawyers in TX that may know more or even specialize in that area of law.

You could just go try to buy one and see what happens with the background check.

I was thinking about doing that, it's just the guns are so over priced at stores.

You could call up a local shop (If you're in the Austin area, Cabellas or Reds would be your best bet) and ask them about it. I'm sure they would know more since they sell them all day every day.

To my knowledge, you can own one. You're not a felon. Don't take my word for it though cause I'm not an expert. A call to a local gun shop may be quicker and easier than a lawyer.

Texas Concealed handgun laws And selected statutes 2001 - 2002. GC CH 411. DPS state of texas handbook. GC 411.172 ELIGIBILITY. para (8) Has not, in the five years preceding the date of application, been convicted of a class A or class B misdemeanor or an offense under Section 42.01, Penal Code. .. this handbook was issued by the state DPS Austin. in Oct 2001. and should be up to date. as to your question. .... johnsr .. Edited (this rule pertains to getting a CCL) I cant find the rule for buying a Handgun in my book, but seems if you can qualify for a CCL you should be able to buy a weapon.

my thoughts exactly. it would be quicker than looking for a lawyer
or e-mailing A.G. and who knows. you might be able to walk out
with the pistol of your choice. good luck to ya.

give us a report on how things go for ya.

If someone screws up your background check and sells you one, even though you weren't supposed to have it, it wouldn't take any legal onus off you for owning a weapon in violation of an applicable law. I wouldn't chance it.

You could ask a lawyer--best bet--or maybe the police/sheriff's office.

Does anyone knows if that means 5 years after conviction or 5 years after discharge? I was convicted in 2004 but discharged in 2006
