As a friend to many people that do not speak English, I know that the State of Tennessee won't issue a driver license, HCP, or ID without proof of lawful residency of the United States and proof of being a resident of the state of Tennessee. I've been to the license office multiple times as a translator.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

Did they actually take the copy of the BC for their records, or did they just need to look at it (So I can just bring the original)?

I think a google of "certified birth certificate" will reveal a bevy of companies that provide this service. Some advertise very quick service.

Really? My wife just did her paperwork with the Naugatuck PD and her passport worked fine.

Followup to the original post. Friday 1-16-2009 I finally recieved my hand carry permit. Here is the kicker I had to contact my local Tennessee State Senator to build a fire under these bureaucrats. I have always live by the code if this is going to cost me my carry rights I ain't going to do it.
A friend said by law they (the state) has to approve or disapprove a new carry permit application in 90 days, but can take their as long as they wil to renew the same.

My understanding is passport is OK as identification. My new complaint is that it takes some outside source to make them do the job they are paid to do.

I received my TN HCP in 2008 and the Proof of U.S. birth was a requirement for filing. A Certified Certificate, Passport (current or expired) or current active duty or retired military I.D. Card worked then. ( I didn't know about military I.D. card until after I paid for a Birth Certificate!)

tennessee is good about doing things like this. the one place i hate to go in tennessee is the dmv office. it is one of the slowest place i have been to and the workers are rude.
