    Carry Options for Large Men

Hi all! First post here. I am taking my CHL course this sunday here in Texas and excited. I have a question. I have decided that I like the Kahr line of pistols and they fit my hand well. I am a very large man 6' 5'' tall and around 475 lbs or so. Question is what options would I have as far as concealment? I like the look of IWB holsters. I will also carry on the job as a Paramedic and use mainly pocket carry on the job. Any one of large stature have any opinions? Thanks all!!

    Welcome...

    from Central Florida!

    Silly question here...you're 6'5" and weigh 475#????
Why do you need a gun?

    Just kidding, just kidding...
I'm half your size...but I'm still 'round'...IWB works great for me...tucked in behind my kidney.

I understand your pain. In 6'10" and 320. As I type this I am wearing a smartcarry that I just got. Its digging into the done lopped over the belt area of my belly. A OWB or IWB holster just makes me look wider and tends to stick out. My other problem is finding shirts long enough to cover a weapon. I wear 3XL tall as it is and they don't keep my belt line covered without a weapon on it. My best option right now is my Kahr CW 40 in a pocket holster in the front pocket of my carrgo type pants.

    Welcome Fellow Texan....

I'm also a big guy. I carry a CW9 in an MTAC, from Comp-Tac, quite a lot and find it really comfortable. When recovering from back surgery, it was the first gun I could carry IWB. I pocket carry it in cargo pants or shorts, all the time.

I'm 5'11", 300 lbs. I open carry at work, but use a bellyband when I need to conceal in warm weather. In cold weather, I wear OWB strong side under a field jacket. My main carry guns are the G23, PF9, or XD40.

I'll go a different route. I'm 6' and 260#. I've grown considerably since my younger days. I'm finding out the smaller pistols are LESS comfortable than a full-size 1911 carried IWB. Those little stinkers poke and prod at me. A nice smooth Government model nestled in a Milt Sparks VM2 is heaven for me. Everyone finds their sweet spot, and mine is just past 3pm. This sticks the muzzle right under my right hip pocket.

There are going to be places that he can't carry. Anyplace that is posted 30.06 (including some hospitals and nursing homes), any business that derives 51% or more of it's income through alcohol sales (bars), federal facilities, prisons, etc.

Yes as a medic I can carry. As long as my administrator knows beforehand it is no problem. We have people that carry already and as far as I know do not remove them while entering the hospitals or nursing homes. We have a few police officers as well as the chief of police that work for us part time, and none of them mind us carrying. I have, while working, been in the situation where carrying a gun would have made me feel a lil more secure. The place I have considered to carry is on my right hip just behind the 3 o clock position as well. Thank you all for responding.

Lawdy!!! 6'10", 6'5".....Holy cow! Now I know where the extra inches went and why I'm only 5'8".....Guess that explains why my OWB w/weapon drags the ground when I walk...SIGH!! ;)
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

take a look at rickwaltnerholsters... they work for me and some of the other large framed folks I know!!
Obama used "hope" and "change" to win the presidency.... Benjamin Franklin wrote in Poor Richard's Almanac, "He that lives upon Hope will die fasting." On change, John Adams wrote, "A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever."
