    Great response from my Senator

I emailed my Senator, Mark Norris, and asked him about the possibility of our new Socialist in Chief using his executive order powers to restrict of outlaw carry by the citizens. I emailed him yesterday, Monday the 17th of November. I got a reply email today at 5pm. Below is the email I received from Senator Norris (R) Tennessee.

    Mr. XXXXXX:

Let me first thank you for your concern in this matter. As a life-long supporter of the rights of responsible, law-abiding Tennesseans to possess and carry handguns, your concern over the possibility of a Presidential mandate banning the rights of responsible American gun owners is one worth noting. Thankfully, I do not believe an Executive Order would be able to ban permit holders from carrying handguns. It is my understanding that Executive Orders may only be directed at federal departments. Handgun carry permits are state-issued and would not be subject to presidential mandate. Therefore, it would be unconstitutional for such an order to be issued. I have conferred with Congressman Marsha Blackburn’s office, and they have given the same interpretation of the powers of Executive Orders.

For now, I hope you can take solace in the knowledge that I will continue to fight for the rights of responsible, law-abiding gun owners, much like I did last year by amending the law to prohibit the governor from confiscating weapons and ammunition during times of declared emergency.

Again, thank you for your concern regarding this issue. As always, if you have any further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to notify my office.

    Sincerely,

    Mark Norris

    Cool

President-elect Obama DID say on National Public Radio (NPR) that he would like to ban all state concealed carry laws.

I don't think they will use Executive Orders. They will either pass an outright ban, tax ammo into oblivion or other onerous implementations.

OTOH, that was a great letter. You have a good rep there.

That was always my understanding, it is a state law & one that cant just be recinded by the feds. Hopefully he will have his hands full with other things & wont have time to enact any weapons bans ala BC. . . Its nice to see that you have a responsive senator & one who cares about our gun rights. . That law he mentioned amending sounds scary! Isnt a "time of declared emergency" when we would want & need our guns the most. .. JOE

I heard the potential Democratic Senator in Alaska, if Stevens loses, and one of his # 1 things were ....... guarding and protecting the 2A rights of Alaskans. He seemed sincere.

I think we should all stop whining and speculating about "what if," and do more to support the NRA and EXPECT MORE out of the NRA to consult with our government !!!

We should all be writing/emailing our reps and letting them know how we feel about an AWB ban how it's never worked and about any attempt to tax weapons and ammo into oblivion

+1, I agree and even though now retired, I do what I can as often as I can. They can reach more ears than I ever could.

    Politicians. Humph.

Send him another letter with a different return address (get a mailbox or something) and write a letter from the brady bunch point of view asking him if he plans on supporting such actions. I'd love to see the response.

If I had the time and money, I would do that to all my local and national reps.

Wow, it must feel good to have a representative who actually represents your views. I can only imagine!

I saw Rep Jim Coley at church last week and raised the same concern. He gave basically the same reply. He said that the now Republican controlled TN legislature has plans to broaden gun rights and with the nasty 'Naif' out of the way, the 2A stuff should be a lot better in TN. I am hopeful.
