I was at the bank today...

And I saw a security guard standing in the corner with a set of keys and that was it. No gun, no pepper spray, no stun gun... nothing.

The thought crossed my mind if someone were to rob this place now, I'd be in a better position to protect people from an armed assailant then the security guard who would be on the floor with everyone else. What's the point of having a guard if they are unarmed? Might as well hire a clown if they're gonna waste the money.

    Some people make me chuckle

OTOH, concealed is concealed. Maybe you just didn't see his armaments.

But me thinks he was "naked" in that respect.

Maybe he was issued kevlar skin when he graduated from guard school.

    Yea, what is the point.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

I've run into that a lot and wondered what the point is too. I work in downtown PHX and our security guard drives a golf cart and has a pen. Maybe he is carrying concealed...maybe he's not.

Maybe it's just the aspect of having a "security force" that's enough to deter an attack? There are companies offering security services for merchant ships to protect against modern day pirates that don't carry weapons too...

I went to a grocery store that I don't usually shop at yesterday to grab some flowers for my mom's birthday. They had an unarmed security guard at the checkouts. He was really young, maybe a buck 30, reading a magazine, and wearing skateboarder sneakers with his uniform. He didn't make me feel near as warm and fuzzy as my .357 on my hip did.

I'm curious. Unless you are a LEO, why would you think it's up to you to protect anyone other than yourself or immediate family? I don't mean to sound nasty, but I carry to protect "me and mine" not "you and yours". I don't have the training to act as a crime stopper. And I'm not sure where I would stand in the eyes of the law, either. I understand your thoughts, and to a degree, agree. I'd be in a better position to protect myself or my family.

Great! Make a guy a target and don't even give him a fighting chance of survival!

Unarmed "secuirty" has never made any sense to me. If some guy is in a uniform with a badge, he is a target. If he is unable to protect himself, he isn't much good to anyone else either, except that he has just volunteered to be the first target if something happens.

If a entity doesn't want to arm its "security", then it should at least have the decency to dress them like everyone else who works there.

Good point. There is a large risk of increasing the danger to yourself and those around you. Also, the legal side of it could end up being ugly. We don't want to be seen as vigilantes.

I hope they gave him a good pair a running shoes. Having a guard with no weapon
in MHO creates a greater danger to everyone in the bank if the SHTF.

Sorry, three posts in a row is over your limit.

My daughter is a bank teller. When being trained, she asked about bank employees carrying concealed on the job. They said "no way." The best she can do is keep one in the car. I hate that. She's taken the concealed handgun class but hasn't applied for the permit, yet.
