First official contact with PD while armed.

I had a teenager slide into an intersection infront of me tonight here in Bismarck. Having more than the $1000 damage that requires a police report.

When the officer I arrived I pulled her aside and showed her my permit telling her that I know I'm required to tell you and I don't want to spook anyone.

All she said is do you have it with you. Didn't phase her and she didn't even ask where I had my .45.

I was pleased on how the officer handled the whole situtation. Now all I have to do is get Elly May (my pickup) fixed.

Glad you got the first one out of the way!

Are there really that many people in North Dakota you have to worry about traffic?

As they should be, very good. Also great thinking making sure others didn't get freaked out, even though there was a LEO standing right there.

I was under the impression that in ND you do NOT need to tell an officer you are carrying unless you are asked:

62.1-04-04. Producing license on demand. Every person while carrying a concealed firearm or
dangerous weapon for which a license to carry concealed is required, shall have on one's person the
license issued by this or another state and shall give it to any law enforcement officer for an inspection
upon demand by the officer. The failure of any person to give the license to the officer is prima facie
evidence that the person is illegally carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon concealed.

Is there any reason not to notify the LEO just to be safe anyway?

I figured that I would just tell the LEO in any situation just to be safe but haven't had the chance to practice this yet and I probably will forget if this happens for traffic stop.

I always practice what I will say to a LEO in case I'm stopped. It will probably come out all wrong anyway, but it's the thought that counts, right?

In Florida no need to notify, but I did and, as I previously posted, it turned out very well.

But, let's not forget about JD and Lima's recent horrific experience.

So, if not required, and you do notify, I suppose it is the luck of the draw in terms of the LEO who makes the stop.
