    A misinformed public?

I participate in other forums, one of which is for Honda VFR enthusiasts. An interesting thread came up about riding with guns. I thought you guys might enjoy taking a look at it.

I found some of the misinformation and prejudices fascinating. I'm covfrrider over there. ;)

At least they weren't bashing the idea, from the few posts I read.

The public is most generally misinformed. The government likes to keep it that way. Then there are those who just plain don't care about the facts.

One person seemed a bit surprised as to the need for carrying.

"Carry on the bike ... Why would anyone want to do that?"
For the same reason carrying anywhere by any upstanding person makes sense: because attacks can happen anytime, anywhere. Doesn't matter if you've ridden a tricycle, motorcycle, skateboard, car, public bus, limousine or walked. To my knowledge, crime isn't rampant for people who take all such non-motorcycle conveyances, but those who take motorcycles are magically protected. Uh ... no.

I have been riding for the past 30 years, and for about 25 of them have carried a concealed weapon. I still ride today and carry just as I did before.

Whether I drive a car, or ride a bike, whats the difference? If you choose to be armed all the time, so be it.....

That was informative, thanks. Some of the same old prejudices, as expected. My favorite is still the "I don't go places where I would need one".
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

Think you may want to edit this part of your post:

"This means being vigilante and having a heightened sense of awareness...."

I know what you meant, but some knucklehead will read that and start going Bernard Goetz on people.

Good catch, I could see how that is interpreted as "Everyone that carries is Dirty Harry". Thanks!

I carried my AK into town on my bike once. rode past a deputy and two officers. Nobody cares.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

It still amazes me how some people think that, because they cannot see any reason why they themselves would ever_________ (insert activity here, in this case "carry a weapon"), then no one should be allowed to.

My wife and I ride Harleys, and therefore we ride with our Harley friends. I was actually surprised at how many of our fellow Harley riders carry when riding. I'm not surprised that they are pro-gun (we're Americans after all), but that virtually each and every one has a gun on them.

I don't carry unless on a trip, since my CHL is still in the mail (TX DPS is slow because of high demand and hurricane IKE), but certainly will once it arrives.

A good friend of mine (ex-DEA, sniper, military intelligence, stories that will scare the crap out of you) carries usually at least two, and sometime three guns. Good man to have on your side.
