    CCW holders per state population

I hope this is the correct forum location for this question.

I have searched and cannot find anything that lists how many concealed carry licenses have been issued in each state and their population. Has anyone ever seen figures to reflect this? I hope it is a growing number.

BTW, if anyone knows what that figure is for Arkansas, please let me know.

hph we did IIRC have something along these lines here a while back - just forget the link.

Anyways - here in PA we have perhaps one of the highest uptakes - at these days an estimated 6%. Below is graph info from 2001.

A coupla years ago I did out of interest ask my local SO what their figures were, and while no totals given the lady did say that they were dealing with about 100/mth at that time. My county is quite small (approx 50,000) and if that figure given equated to even 1,000 per year - that is a very healthy build on just local numbers.

I've seen Utah's statistics. They publish them quarterly along with denials, appeals, etc. It's on the BCI (Bureau of Criminal Identification) webpage.

    P95Carry,
Your graph is exactly what I was looking for. Still haven't found a list for each state though.

    Kentucky,
Packing.org didn't list Arkansas stats, but thanks anyway.

    Florida Population, 2004 estimate : 17,397,161

Florida Concealed Weapon/Firearm License Holders as Dec 2005: 362,085

I think it ends up being 2%

Isn't it strange that only 2% to 5% of a states' population has a concealed handgun license. I know there is a LOT of people out there that truly believe the police will protect them and nothing else is needed. It's sad when they find out different.....then it is obviously too late.
BTW, thanks guys for your input on my question.

I think it's hilarious that people think "if you take away the guns, crime will decrease".

First, we know that's rediculous, but that's not my point.

MAIN POINT: It would be impossible to remove all firearms from the United States. There are more firearms than there are people. Plus, good luck trying to get some of these people's guns. They'd definitely go down fighting. And the criminals would still have guns, and no one to oppose them.

I would have agreed with that statement 20+ years ago. Not today. Every year our anti-gun pro-UN public schools turn out more victims of the propaganda machine. Guess what those same little brainwashed robots are becoming soldiers, marines and LEOs. I think that if (SHUDDER) Hillary became President and the control of both the Hose and Senate shifted to a filibuster proof Democrat majority, there would be no hesitation at passing confiscatory laws. I think that 90% of the population would simply roll over and whimper:TAKE MY GUNS! Just please don't hurt me or my family! ~bleat bleat~ That's the bad news.

The NOT SO BAD news is that there are about ... well say there are 100 million gunowners owning a minimum of one gun and some many more. That means that while 90 million will give them up, there remains a core of TEN MILLION gun owners who will not and that, by anybodys reckoning is a sizeable armed force. MANY of those will be former military and many of those will have combat...perhaps SpecOps combat experience. A scenario right out of Matt Brackens book, we were recently discussing:

Wanted to add some newer info - read in paper today some figures for PA in 2005. It was all to do with NICS checks.

    Number of CCW's - 107,000. Number of firearms transactions - (IIRC) 363,000.

I will assume that some CCW's were renewals but I fancy a large percentage is new uptake. If at 2001 we were all but 600,000 and we know that since 9/11 demand rose, I estimate that by end of 2005 we just might have around the million mark!!! That is based on a guess of potentially an extra 100,000 per year since.

That could make us now in percentage terms more like 8% than the old 6%. I regard that as very good and could well be we are still up the top for uptake. Just thought I'd update the possible figures.
