    My CCW class starts tonight

I am looking forward to it. I am taking the course at a community college here that a co-worker took a few years ago. He was telling me about it and it sounds like they do a good job of covering all aspects.

Good luck. Ask any question you have! Make sure you understand everything. But really, don't be scared, it's quite simple and all. Best of luck, and welcome to the club of anti

Good for you! Just like they said... make sure you are clear on everything. Have fun with it tonight. Sure there will be a lot of great people in there with you.

You'll love it. Enjoy and listen up. Don't be afraid to clarify ANYTHING you don't understand...after all, it'll be your butt on the chopping block, not the teacher's.

Good luck, enjoy, take it serious, and shoot straight.

    Congratulations

I am just wondering if the Community College you are taking CCW training at allows Concealed Carry?

I'll bet not. Only BG's can carry on campus.

No, in Michigan I don't think any colleges allow CCW.
I would have to re-read the statues to be sure.

So what were your thoughts on your class?

I thought the class was OK. Very enjoyable and easy. The classroom part was taught by a prosecuting atorney and a state police firearms instructor. One night for each of them, then one night at a range to qualify.

From talking to a co-worker who took the same class a few years ago, I was expecting a few more, What if' situations where they set the details and you had to decide, is is justifiable to shoot or not. Apparently this has changed since the co-worker took the class, as Michigan has a new Self Defense law.

It was very obvious that all the instructors were PRO CCW for civilians. They were willing to make sure everyone was comfortable and willing to shoot, and shoot well.

There was one older gentleman whose son had enrolled him in the class. Several times this man stopped the instructor to comment that he would not feel comfortable carrying in some of the areas being discussed, ie, theaters or churches. (Churches require permission from people in charge. I don't plan on asking mine.)
Both the instructors explained why it's a good thing to be carrying if you need it. They did also explain that if you really don't think you can use a gun on another person, then you shouldn't carry.

All in all, not bad, but I do feel that there were a few areas that could have been reinforced better, ie, not shooting more once the threat is eliminated. Perhaps a few better examples of how to avoid drawing a gun, and what does not constitute imminent threat. As I said they definiatly wanted you to feel comfortable using the gun, maybe to the point of over emphasing that option.

In any event I can now apply for my CCW!
