Obtaining License in Alabama
I am probably getting my first pistol in the next couple weeks and I am very interested in obtaining my concealed permit as well. Now I know that Alabama is a may issue state and I notice that the Tuscaloosa County application has a line asking why I am seeking the permit.
My intentions are obviously for personal protection of myself and my family, but I don't know exactly how I should word it so I don't get turned down for some reason.
I could be over thinking this, but I just wanted to make sure. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help...

When I got mine upon turning 21, I answered that line as "personal protection."

My brother lives in Pickens County(right next door to you) and that's what he put on his application. He's had it for three years now.

Alabama is like Connecticut and Iowa. While the law is "may issue" on the books, unless you're a criminal you can get one with relative ease.

Alabama CCW Concealed Carry Hand Gun Legal Info
Here is a good link on Alabama and the process required to obtain a CCL. It should get you squared away.

Thanks for everyone's help, I feel better about going into this. Hopefully I'll get my pistol in a couple weeks and get to the permit soon after.

You can get your permit before you own a pistol.
You don't have to wait until after you buy the gun.

It may be different here in Tuscaloosa County, but in their FAQs section it say one pistol has to be on the permit. If this is wrong I'll go ahead and do the app.

Yes, it may be different in other counties. Check first.
In Mobile County, you don't have to own a pistol to apply for permit.
When I first obtained my permit (about 5 years ago) I thought you had to have a pistol first. But there were no questions asked about what type or how many pistols I own.
The permit only says " can carry any legal pistol".

I'll check into it again. I used to live down there in Robertsdale (Baldwin County).

Shortly after I moved here, I stopped by the Elmore County Sheriff's Office to inquire about the process. The nice lady at the counter asked if I wanted one. In about 10 minutes I was on my way with the "State of Alabama Pistol License - Unrestricted." Having moved from the Left Coast, I was pleasantly surprised.
The renewal date is my personal celebration of the Second Amendment. At work, I just tell'em, "I've got county business today." I renew, tour a few gun shops, make a purchase and then out to the range.

Congrats on taking the step!!!
Have some family down there and you should have no problem.
Also no one has asked (weird) what gun are you planning on.
Good Luck
