Tn ccw holder firearms registration
Just got word that TN Department of Safety is now collecting data from Concealed carry instructors in the state of TN.
The Data they are collecting is names, addresses Drivers license number written test scores, gun makes, Serial numbers, and date of completetion for those students who take the CCW course in TN.
Sounds like Gun registraion to me.
I have the thing in a PDF with the Letter from the TN Department of Public safety, but for some reason having trouble posting it.

Thats why Arkansas struck the serial number requirement years ago.

I'm a TN CCW instructor and this is the first I have heard of this.
Of course the state has ALWAYS had that info anyway. The form we instructors sign for the student to take to the Dept of Safety has the date of their class, their gun make model and caliber and name and adress on the form, their drivers license # is on their application.
And as far as registration goes, a fair amount of schools RENT guns to students so the state is going to have a bunch of different people with the same guns registered to them.......
This whole thing sounds suspect. Can you copy the PDF and post it here?

Wow, Texas only has the type of gun whether it is semi auto or non semi auto. No caliber, no serial number, and a simple pass or fail on the certificate for the proficiency and the test. The DL number is there but then again it is all over the paperwork that you turn in anyway.
That being said, one of my buddies 92 FS passed the proficiency portion of the test about 4 or 5 times before the owner even took the class. This was due to the fact that some of the guys that he worked with only had revolvers and wanted to be able to carry a semi auto later on, so he loaned them the gun.
Would be interesting to see the form that is spoken of.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

VA you don't even have to own a gun to get your CWP. Nothing on your permit paperwork even asks about a gun, let alone make, model and SN.

CHL holders names and addresses are listed by county through the Arkansas State Police...they are still public record to this day. Anyone can inquire and get the list. I have the list for five counties surrounding me (this was just a test to see how public the records were). I guess the media could go ahead and post it in the newspapers or on the internet if they so desired to list some 60,000 people.

Hmmm, sounds a little fishy to me. When I took the class, I used the range's gun. I never gave the TDOS any info on any of the guns I own or would carry on my application.

I agree with Luke. In TN you don't have to own the gun, but it is required to have the make, model, and caliber on the certificate. You will also need shoot 50 rounds from various distances and make a passing score to qualify.

NOT the serial number, though. THAT'S what makes it gun registration.
And yeah I know, many folks use a rental, but many don't. Many use one of their own guns, many use the gun they're actually going to carry.
Big thread on TGO (TnGunOwners.com) re this, Cruel, where I know you're registered.
All the guys there who teach say they got the letter.

Thanks. I'll go to TGO and check it out.
I do not own the school I teach at so I do not get the mail. But neither I nor the other instructor there have heard anything about it yet. I guess the state will have our range rental guns "registered" to A LOT of people.......

Yeah, all the info on that form has always been provided to the state except the serial number. I don't really like that. That does sound like a back door registration scheme to me.

I should hang out there more....I promise I will do so more.
I was just listening to the Mike Fleming radio show and State Senator Mark Norris was just on talking about this very issue. Seems that not only the NRA but also TFA got fired up about this overnight and they are backing off of this right now. Sen. Norris says he is not sure they are backing off of it enough and he is hammering them on it.
It just makes me wonder what brought this on suddenly. And why the fools in the fools who put out this letter thought it would fly now that the Senate and House is Republican controlled.
