High Cap mags leaving thru NY airport.

I have read and printed out all the rules for checking a firearm at the NY airports.

Can you legally transport a high cap magazines? I know NY has the 10 shot rule. I have the two standard 10 shot for the Glock 26. I also have two 17 shot and one 31 high cap mag. Can you legally transort them from Nassau County, Long Island to Orlando Florida thru JFK? I would like to take them because I am going to be taking Brownies class in Florida want to save time reloading.

If you are already leaving from NY, presumably they are pre-1994 already?

I would call the Port Authority, the airline, or TSA and find out for sure.

You can always ship them ahead to yourself or the school.

You can transport guns (don't know about the high capacity mags) from one place where you are allowed to have them to another state where you are allowed to have them.

Since you are starting out from Nassau county, my first concern is that you have a NY license and can legally bring the weapons into the city--is the NY license you have good in NYC.

Second concern, do you have a FL non-residence license.

If you are good to go on both of these, then my inclination would be to proceed but take the "standard" capacity magazines, or perhaps ship the high capacity one ahead of you. (Don't know how legal it would be to ship them back into NY???)

Frankly, I doubt you can get an an authoritative answer you can bet your clean record on.

Sent a PM, I'll be at Brownie's March 2009 class here in Central, FL. You can send them ahead of time to me, if you like.

I am going to take Sass up his offer. I have a Nassau County Lic and a Florida CCW with Florida state Id. So I am good to go on that issue. Don't need a lic for transport thru NYC to get to the airport. As long as I dont make any stops and the firearm is unloaded and secured in the truck of the vehicle that I am driving if I am reading the Atty General letter correctly.
